Holmwood House is the finest and most elaborate residential villa designed by the Scottish architect Alexander "Greek" Thomson. It is also rare in retaining much of its original interior decor, and being open to the public. A Category A listed building, the villa is located at 61-63 Netherlee Road, Cathcart, in the southern suburbs of Glasgow, and is owned by the National Trust for Scotland.
Holmwood is considered to be immensely influential by several architectural historians, because the design as published in Villa and Cottage Architecture: select examples of country and suburban residence recently erected in 1868 may have influenced Frank Lloyd Wright and other proto-modernist architects.
Beautiful and interesting house designed by Alexander Thomson. The restoration of his stencils and designs are well worth a visit. National Trust property. Opening beginning of March.

Only open April through October but no place to alter that here. Meant we had a cold but not unpleasant wait in the grounds for Noon to arrive last Saturday, only to find the place is now actually shut for winter. More could maybe be done with the gardens.

Hidden gem. Took the kids to see santa and the reindeers at Christmas. They even had the adults singing.

House looked fascinating - but do check the opening times. It was closed on the Wednesday we visited it. Will come back to look inside.

Its not very often you get the chance to stay in Greek Thomson building so we were delighted when we book for the property last week, the accommodation was cosy and comfortable and made for a good base when exploring the South side of Glasgow and the centre itself. We visited the mansion house of the Thursday and had a fabulous tour of the house all of the staff were very welcoming and extremely knowledgeable. A real gem of a property. Please leave a like.

A most interesting place to visit. Part of Glasgow's history virtually unknown. Well worth a little of your time chatting to the very knowledgeable staff.
