The House for an Art Lover is a building constructed between 1989 and 1996 and based on a 1901 design by Charles Rennie Mackintosh with his wife, Margaret MacDonald. The building is situated in Bellahouston Park in Glasgow, Scotland and sits east of the site of the famed Festival Tower of the Empire Exhibition, Scotland of 1938. The idea to actually construct the house from the Mackintoshs' designs came from Graham Roxburgh, a civil engineer in Glasgow who had done refurbishment work on the Mackintosh interiors in Craigie Hall. The house is a prominent example of the Modern Style (British Art Nouveau style). The house is a venue for art exhibitions and other events, as well as being itself a visitor attraction.
The house was originally designed for a competition for an architectural design for a "Haus eines Kunstfreundes" (Art Lover's House), set by the German design magazine Zeitschrift für Innendekoration. Despite disqualification due to late entry and unfinished sketches, the portfolio was awarded a prize for its "pronounced personal quality, novel and austere form and the uniform configuration of interior and exterior".

I didn't get chance to get in as it was closed to public by the time I got there. Will be back this weekend though and going by how beautiful the gardens are managed I'm looking forward to seeing inside. Looking at some pictures other people have out on and they are stunning. A lovely house and lovely gardens with park and ski course on same grounds. Also a few mazes and other attractions. Great day out for family's of all ages. Something for everyone.

A recreation of A Mackintosh design. Glasgow's most famous son, possibly art wise

House For An Art Lover is absolutely stunning. I think the trust has done an amazing job of realising and bringing to life the designs of Charles and Margaret Mackintosh. I can't recommend a visit highly enough! Their tour, restaurant & gift shop and customer service are all 5 star too.

Fabulous place to visit. Three rooms (reception, dining room, music room) are furnished and decorated faithfully in keeping with Mackintosh's drawings. A fourth, the oval room, is done in Mackintosh style, as no drawings were submitted by him for that room. Lots of information provided on the history and contents of the house. The setting in Bellahouston Park is beautiful and easy to get to by public transport. The Art Lover's Cafe is really more of a restaurant and on the day we visited required a reservation. This meant that we had to wait until 2:30 pm for the first available lunch reservation. The food and service were excellent, if not cheap. If you just want a light snack, you may want to take it with you.

One of the most attractive settings for almost every function, its grandeur, history and sensitivity can not be surpassed or overlooked to celebrate all medium sized events. The open public bistro restaurant is equally special, serving excellent menu choices of food along with top class service.

Absolutely splendid wedding venue. The House, built to Mackintosh's design in the 1990s, has a beautiful room for the ceremony and a stunning sunlit dining room. The House sits in beautiful Bellahouston Park which is great for photos. A downstairs room is excellent for dancing with easy access to get outside to enjoy the evening air. Scott, our Master of Ceremonies, was super efficient, super friendly and all round great guy. He was supported by great staff. The meal was delicious. All in all it made for a day to remember for all the right reasons. All the guest were thrilled. Full disclosure, I am the father of the bride.

This art deco mansion / cottage type house set in splendid gardens within Glasgows inner city park greenness that is Bellahouston Park contains an exhibition to the esteemed Glasgow artist Charles Rennie McIntosh spread over several rooms, it also boasts a tea room. I am not sure if this was open when I was there, as it was only me wandering around, but worth a visit

Went to look at the Mackintosh Suite wedding venue today. It was all set up for a wedding and looked absolutely stunning. Wedding coordinator Hannah was fab - so friendly and knowledgeable. The Music Room is classic CRM and so beautiful. It leads out on to a large balcony with views of the lovely gardens below. Great place for a stylish wedding.

Just shot my first wedding here on the weekend just gone. Absolutely outstanding place. We had the best time. The staff were unbelievably helpful and generous. My couple had the time of their lives. Cannot say enogh good things about the place. One of Glasgows finest weddings and conference spaces without doubt!

The area is nice and the food is very good but service is often very slow especially when you're only there for coffee!

Purists look down on it because it's a modern attempt to build a house from Mackintosh's incomplete drawings but to me it's a delight. It captures the essence of the architecture and decorative work of both Mackintosh and his talented wife, Margaret MacDonald. Several lovely interiors with interesting furniture. Good café with an outdoor terrace, small but worthwhile shop. It would be a stunning venue for a wedding and reception.

Was a guest at a wedding here at the end of July. It's an iconic venue for the people of Glasgow because of the Rennie McIntosh connection and we are justifiably proud of it. The venue itself is a perfect setting to hold your wedding with a delightful hall for the actual ceremony. Combined with the ability to get great wedding photos in Bellahouston Park and a great place to have your reception, this should be high on your list of wedding venue options.

Excellent exhibition replicating with such precision and authenticity the designs for rooms and their furnishings designed by Mackintosh and his wife Margaret. Very informative audio guides and visual displays. House set in lovely location
