One of the prized ruins in town. Restoration still ongoing. Come see the circular tower for nuns, one of the first apartment buildings in the Americas. Beautiful, quiet garden area. Kids love climbing all over the place.

One of the iconic sights in Antigua, Convento Capuchinas makes for an enlightening visit for those who wish to get a glimpse of what life must have been like in a colonial convent. The place is properly restored in some areas to exemplify this modus vivendi, while other areas keep that splendour that only buildings that have seen centuries slip by possess.

I would have never guessed from the outside how beautiful these ruins are. It was fascinating to walk through and imagine what it must have been like to live there as a nun.

This was one of the coolest historical sites I have been to! The beautiful old structure, the history, the age, the restoration, and the greatness of each space made this a landmark I will always recommend! A few tips: - Be sure your camera is charged! - Don't hire a guide, or at least know that they will possibly try to up-charge. - And if you are a singer, sing the first line of "Ave Maria" from the balcony in the cathedral/sanctuary building, (it is heavenly)!
