Ribbit, ribbit! Love this tour, and I am a local. I've taken it a few times and enjoy it every time. Love the point when the bus splashes into the water and becomes a boat. Made me think about how skilled the driver is. He must have his large passenger vehicle license as well as his commercial captain's license. I wanted to ask him at the end of the tour but he disappeared fast. I have since found out the Harbour Hopper captains have their Under 60 Ton Captain's License as well as a Class 2 Bus License. Impressive. Enjoyed the ramble of the extroverted actor/host but could have used a bit more quiet time to enjoy the views. They talk loudly and animatedly so if that isn't your thing, you could choose another tour, but I love this one. It is such a uniquely fun experience in Halifax.
Wife and I decided to take a tour with the Harbour Hopper one summer. I don't know why we didn't do it sooner. I live around here but, having a tour of the city and getting to see some stuff I ordinarily don't get to, it was awesome. Our guide was funny and kept everyone focused and engaged. It was kinda 'touristy', but it was worth it. Even more worth it was the look on peoples faces (in the hopper) as the hopper went into the harbour!
The tour is only 55 minutes but you get to see both downtown and the harbour. This is a good way to enjoy Halifax. The tour provides basic but useful information about the city. If you want a detailed historic tour, maybe this one is not for you. But I really enjoyed it and ended my trip at the museum to learn more :)
Harbour Hopper Tours almost ruined our Maritimes vacation. We wasted an entire Sunday afternoon because of "mechanical issues" compounded by poor service and NO adequate contingency plan to help stranded customers. Pray they don't lie to you about having only 1 of their 3 bus/boats in service and ask you to wait another two hours for a tour, even if that's too late for you and your young family, and all other attractions are now closed. Their attitude is, take your money back, take our lousy alternative, or tough luck!!! Don't waste your money--you will learn a lot more by just walking around this great city and visiting the sights--the Maritime Museum, Pier 21, the Citadel, or by going into one of the great restaurants and speaking to locals, without this tour!!!!
Hubby and I really enjoyed ourselves. Very informative and a really neat experience. I loved that it was a land and water tour.
Tour guides were awesome. Very informative and fun too.
Did this tour a few years ago, thoroughly enjoyed it. Hope to do it again this summer.
Do this experience when you first get to Halifax . Gives you the layout and your bearings. Touches on some of the history and is an enjoyable ride through town. Must when on vacay in beautiful Halifax.
Loved the tour and the tour guide was super knowledgeable and hilarious! I took the tour about 4 years and remember next to nothing but we plan on going again this summer!
Good value, a good summary for a tourist. Guide was funny and we enjoyed our time on the trip.
The 7-day Tour East Bus trip that I'm traveling on stopped here; we have 50 tourists in our group. The $222.50 attractions package includes access to the Whale Watching Boat Tour, Thousand Island Boat Tour, Hopewell Rocks, Maritime Museum, etc., of which this attraction is one of the experiences. The 1 hour Harbour Hopper Tour is the current attraction. Lots of Halifax history presented by the Captain and First Mate. It's a worthwhile land and waterfront experience on a "$1 Million amphibious vehicle". This company bought 5 of the 900 United States military vehicles built for the Vietnam War and retrofitted them as a tourist experience. Historical Canada 🇨🇦
Alex was our tour guide. Self proclaimed Canadian History high school teacher from Dartmouth. His charisma and love for his craft were evident. Engaging and hilarious. Our tour bus bus witnessed an accident and Alex remained calm and professional - the leadership and direction people needed after witnessing what seemed like real tragedy was very welcome and distracting. I would recommend this 55 mine tour to anyone visiting Halifax.
Good tour. I booked it 3 weeks ahead. Dismayed when I realised it was full of school kids. Luckily time was on my side, so I rebooked for a later departure. Thanks to some good advice from a member of staff, I went for the 11:45 one. This makes it to the citadel to coincide with the canon firing at 12:00. Sit on the left hand side to get the action. But not at the back.
Great quicktourof Halifax both on and off the water. Highly recommended if you want the quick low down to see some places you want to spend more time at later. Part of the Halifax experience.
Not cheap but worth it! Great tour. It goes in the water at the end! Good way to get an overview of Halifax!
