Harewood House set in very grand privately owned rolling parklands open to the public just north of Leeds on the A61, is a good place for a family day out. Last weekend the grounds provided a very good setting indeed for this year's Northern Cross Country Championships. But be careful when actually touring the house, the staff were not historically particularly child friendly. Nevertheless a recommended venue to visit.

Harewood house is a beautiful stately home. Gardens and estate are beautifully manicured. A day ticket is relatively expensive in my view but on a nice day it is a wonderful part of the world to be in. The estate is not part of national trust or English heritage and so tickets are limited only to the estate. Harewood house estate is home to lots of pne off or annual events (classic car show, food events, open air theatre productions, Christmas productions etc). It's a great place to bring kids to visit the outdoors. The bird garden has had a small farm experience added around 2016 which is small but nice. The lake has boat tours on for an extra fee. The woods and ornamental gardens are beautiful and the kids play grounds are fun with big slides and climbing frames and zip wires. On rainy days the kitchen under the stairs is fun. For adults theres plenty of history and a great bookshop. The high prices mean that it never seems to crowded and make it a lovely oasis only a few miles out of Leeds city centre.

Christmas at Harewood House, stunningly beautiful! Great visit plenty to see in the house and the bird garden was good but I bet it’s better in the summer. The cafe and gift shop are a little on the small side but food is good.

Venue for Northern Counties Cross Country 2018, well organised and planned event. Good access on day for us from North. Good parking and great Venue - more athletics meetings to come here I think. Tough uphill start though!

Very enjoyable day. Excellent facilities and so much to see. The house is in excellent condition and full of amazing painting and glimpse into how the aristocraticy lived. Well worth a visit.

Superb setting, expansive grounds, lots of birds of prey swirling over the open grassland, an aviary, himalayan garden, play area for the children. And the house isn't bad either.

Harewood House in LS17 is a well presented day out for all the family. However you do pay for the pleasure. The grounds have a Cafe, Farm Experience, Himalayan Garden, Stepping Stones, Penguins, Birds and Adventure Playground plus the house which we did not explore. The Adventure Playground was v good. Appropriate for all ages, big and spacious. It had steps on and off at different intervals which means children can get on and off without a problem. The cafe food was £5 a sandwich and would recommend taking a picnic as there are sheltered benches near to the car park. There is a boat trip on the lake which costs extra.

Great place for young children with the adventure playground and small zoo but poor for adults with dogs. You cannot walk around the lake or in the acres of open grass land. The walled garden is almost empty and the Himalayn Garden is interesting but small. We loved the formal garden behind the house. Not good value for money as we had to pay for Below Stairs even though we only wanted the grounds. I also discovered later I had made a donation on top of my entrance fee - not a problem but nice to be asked.

I have not been in the house its self but the grounds and park are beautiful with loads of different paths and routes to explore. Well behaved dogs can be off lead a lot of the time apart from round the livestock and in the deer park. The amount of dear in the park is incredible! Thoroughly enjoyed our walk here and have even managed to wear our spaniel out!!

The house and grounds are beautiful and the volunteers and staff were really nice and knowledgeable. There is a lot of walking to do, so be ready for that. If you take the bus, you get half off admission which is cool. If you're not driving, I suggest getting there early as the cue to get a ticket is a long car line which would be really tiring to stand in. I arrived around 11:30am and didn't have to wait long but by 2ish when I left, there were at least 20 cars in line. Maybe it would be good if there was a pedestrian-priority ticket window? Safer than having people standing between cars.

A really nice afternoon out. The only downside is the prices. The price of entry is somewhat high, and if you're driving in, you need to pay before you can park, so unless you live locally, you can't even enjoy the lawn without forking over a fair bit of cash per person first. The cost of lunch in the cafe was somewhat steep also, for the rather limited selection of sandwiches and salads on offer. None of this was unexpected, but if you're visiting, bring some cash!

I visited Harewood House today and loved it. There is loads to do and see and having the lovely weather helped. I had booked a penguin experience for my daughter for her 18th Birthday. What an amazing experience this was and worth every penny. If you have young children there is a brilliant outdoor play area and animals to feed like goats, pigs, rabbits etc. There is a boat on the lake that offers trips for £3 each or £10 for family of four. The gardens are lovely and the food in the cafe was lovely too. All in all a fabulous day out. Would go again.

The parking is very good. The church is beautiful. Visit the bird garden very entertaining especially feeding times for the penguins. The heron joined in on this. The views are wonderful and the house is not just a museum it is a home changed to the taste of each generation. The Chippendale exhibition is wonderful.

Fantastic day out. So much to do. The house gives you a good opportunity to see a snapshot of an earlier time. The gardens are beautiful, with both formal and informal areas which you can roam around for hours. And finally the bird garden has a range of exotic birds in natural enclosures and a handful of small animals that young and old will enjoy looking at. Well worth the entry fee.

A fantastic visit and the volunteers are lovely. My only complaint was the cafe in the house. It all just seemed very awkward. The placement of the fridges and register were strange and one of toilets didn't lock even though they're supposed to be unisex. I don't know if it's a new addition but it definitely needs re-evaluating.

Always a great day out or even just for an hour. The single ticket price seems quite high but if you are staying the whole day its probably worth it. We have a family card for the year so it seems excellent value for money the playground is great for the kids of all ages and there are some lovely short walks in beautiful surroundings.

Something for everyone, young and old, a shuttle bus service was available for the steep bit. Went with my daughter, we were there for 5 hours, very impressed. I think we'll allow longer next time and take a picnic. There are plenty of seats and benches to rest for a while and take in the beautiful scenery.
