A lot of people on Sunday... So it is better to visit the museum another day. Nice exhibition, the really liked the permanent collection and the temporary one was also really interesting.
Finland's National Art Gallery is well organized, and has things for children to see and touch mixed into the regular exhibition space. Exhibits are rearranged frequently to keep it fresh, and there are some really surprising gems in there, such as an unexpected Van Gogh painting.
Mostly perfect art museum. You'll find many of the most famous finnish art works here, and the museum is so big that it was not really crowded even though we were there during a peak hour (women's restroom had a queue but other than that, no jam whatsoever). The food on the cafeteria (nyhtökaurasalaatti) was very good also, and not that expensive. They also have free lockable boxes (you'll need a coin though), so you don't have to carry around your belongings.
I cannot believe the HENRIK was visit here film music! Big place nice place! 5+++
Such a great place where art meets people, all people not only sophisticated art lovers. The building itself was built in the late eighteen hundreds and is worth visiting just for that. Regular ticket is 15 euros, museum pass suits, too. Permanent exhibition includes many Finnish she art masterpieces and the variety of collections is impressive.
Must see in Helsinki. The most important pieces of finnish art can be found here. In addition to the permanent exhibition, Ateneum always has something new to show and teach. One should reserve enough time when visiting as the exhibitions can be quite vast in nature. The museum does have a good cafe in it, so taking a coffee break or eating lunch within the visit is possible. The atmosphere in the museum is relaxed/classical. Meaning, visiting is stress-free but one must act with some elegance. Like anywhere in Finland, live freely but with discretion.
Wonderful museum mainly focused on Finnish artists. Apart from the rich permanent exhibition always some temporary exhibit and lots of interesting activities. Lots of school children in the mornings. Great cafe and souvenir shop.
the art museum with master pieces showing the symbol of Finnish art development. Not so many visitors, everyone can enjoy as you wish and even have a rest inside. Cozy place with nice staff, recommend for a look when you stay in Helsinki.
A true legend for fine art in Helsinki. All classics in one place. Well recommended!
Great exhibition of Finnish and not only Finnish art pieces, detailed descriptions of the paintings. Pleasant building!
Absolutly best museum in Finland. You will find finnish spirit there. National art is amazing and it is speaks storys of Finland.
Always interesting exhibitions going on here, never been disappointed. Apart from the various different themes and art that is exhibited here every season, they have the fixed exhibition with Finnish art that I also recommend you to take a look at. Very reasonable price for investing in your cultural development.
Many interesting exhibits with a lot of background information. In common with many museums and galleries this information is displayed in small type size. Perhaps less information but more easily read would sometimes be preferable.
Superb museum focusing on Finnish art - but always with some wonderful visiting exhibitions - currently showing Italian magic realism very unusual and brilliantly curated - highly recommended
Definitely a must if you visit Helsinki. Ateneum is the premier art gallery residing in an old building that used to be an art school almost 100 years ago. It has famous paintings from local masters as well as paintings from painters around the world. One very interesting detail was a gallery of self portraits from Finnish painters from different times.
The museum's permanent exhibition provides a comprehensive view on Finnish arts, especially painting and sculpture. The focus is obviously on the classical era but there are a few displays on modern arts as well. The architecture of the museum itself is also impressive.
Great collection of Finnish classics. At the moment there was a collection of Italian art from 1920-1930 and it was fantastic. Good size so you can walk it within 30-90 min depending on the person. Normal adult 15€
