Helsinki Cathedral (Finnish: Helsingin tuomiokirkko, Suurkirkko; Swedish: Helsingfors domkyrka, Storkyrkan) is the Finnish Evangelical Lutheran cathedral of the Diocese of Helsinki, located in the neighborhood of Kruununhaka in the centre of Helsinki, Finland at the Senate Square. The church was originally built from 1830–1852 as a tribute to the Grand Duke of Finland, Tsar Nicholas I of Russia. It was also known as St Nicholas's Church (Finnish: Nikolainkirkko, Swedish: Nikolajkyrkan) until the independence of Finland in 1917. It is a major landmark of the city, and possibly the most famous structure in Finland as a whole when viewed globally.
A distinctive landmark in the Helsinki cityscape, with its tall, green dome surrounded by four smaller domes, the building is in the neoclassical style. It was designed by Carl Ludvig Engel as the climax of his Senate Square layout: it is surrounded by other, smaller buildings designed by him.

Let's talk about this beauty!!! It is absolutely wonderful. Gorgeous! I loved all the architecture especially all the buildings on each side of it. Helsinki is one of the most beautiful cities I've visited. I loved the stairs and the size and the details.

It is a very beautiful cathedral also known as white church, a must visit place in Helsinki. Loved it, very neat and clean walls and very beautiful from inside as well. Many people visit and don't go inside, no doubt that it is beautiful from outside an is at very good location, but I would suggest to go and see from inside as well and spend couple of minutes there, it's beautiful from inside too. Entry is free of cost so just give it a look.

It is really beautiful cathedral from outside As far as i remember it called also white cathedral very modern and very clean place so of you decide to go in you might be disappointed. Inside of cathedral not beautiful as much outside. Again it is worth to see it.

The outside is impressive, the white colour makes the all square brighter. Inside there's not much, as you would expect.

This is an amazing building from the outside. Unfortunately it was closed when we got there, so I couldn't see inside. But I enjoyed walking around the exterior and appreciating the architecture. There are several steps to get up to it (roughly 50 I'd guess) which are quite steep. But atop the steps you can look out over the city. Surely worth checking out if you're in Helsinki. Also check out the library next door. Free to go inside and look around at amazing architecture and beautifully displayed books.

I visited the Helsinki Cathedral on May 31, 2017, as one of the landing ports on our NCL Northern Europe cruise. Although the stay in Helsinki was just one day, the city was beautiful, quiet, clean, and the local people were decent. The Lutheran Helsinki Cathedral is grand, solemn, and put us a sense of worshiping God. Praise the LORD!

Also visited the shop belongs to the church for a special souvenir : They have beautiful popup 3D card with the church design made from paper , best to be a memorable gift :)

Inside you can almost feel like there are eyes watching you when standing in certain places. The architecture is well thought out. Unlike some other churches near by this one does not have an entrance fee altho being more prominently displayed. Calm and quiet. Nice to step in if the city noise has been a drag.

What's good The cathedral is huge and located right next to the busy marketplace. What's not good The interiors are simple and ok. What to do Take pictures with cathedral at backdrop. Visit in summer and enjoy the sunshine.

There are always iconic buildings in every city. Some that live up to their "billing" and dome that disappoint. In the case of the Helsinki Cathedral, it does live up to its billing. For most drama, approach it from Senate Square as it sits on the top of a hill from that viewpoint. (Approaching it from other directions doesn't do it justice). The Cathedral dominates Senate Square and is resplendent in white. It is adorned with monumental steps and flanked by Soviet-era style buildings. Any visit to Helsinki has to include seeing this place. A beautiful iconic building, inside and out. Make sure you look out towards the harbour once you're up at the entrance.

A must visit Helsinki destination, a more traditional church compared to the others you'll visit. The outside is gorgeous, the inside is even more amazing. Check out the golden chandeliers, look up to admire their beauty. The altar is quite impressive, even if understated compared to the ones you'll see in Rome. :)
