Álvar Núñez Cabeza de Vaca is an outdoor sculpture of the Spanish explorer of the same name by Pilar Cortella de Rubin, installed at Hermann Park's McGovern Centennial Gardens in Houston, Texas, in the United States. The bronze bust rests on a granite pedestal and was acquired by the City of Houston in 1986.
Landscaping to a new level! This is really an amazing garden, something which I have rarely seen anywhere. There is a really good view when you are on the top of the spiral garden. Also they do have gardening classes where you can learn to grow different vegetables and fruits. Even Houston Museum of Natural Sciences is very close to this garden. And don't forget to bring a good set of lens for photography.

This was my favorite lunch spot when I worked in the area. They had food trucks at the entrance throughout the month. The gardens are beautiful and the water features are relaxing. Plenty of spots for photoshoots and even a dedicated space for special events. Parking is free, there are tables and chairs outside near the water feature, and decent public restrooms out on the side.

It was a good place to go before wrapping up the visit of Houston. Nice water features all round. A slop of winding pathway leading to the top of the green man made hill where you can have a good view of surrounding. Beautiful landscape and many scrubs, flowers are planted all around the park. There's also a Japanese Garden few minutes away with a large pond

A phenomenal place to stroll around and enjoy a break from the rush of the week. The water features are plenty and the flowers, gardens and view are spectacular. Beautifully well kept and all the volunteers and workers are extremely helpful and informative.

Just a beautiful place to walk around or relax. They have some rather comfortable outdoor seating as well as really night rentable indoor event space. You can get enjoying by just passing through for five minutes or easily spend an hour plus taking it all in. Free parking in the lot right nextdoor is an added bonus!

This park has beautiful gardens, fountains, landscaping with light trails that is perfect for the kiddos. The hill with the spiral path is great for the elderly or children as it is easy to get to the top and the step waterfall is a very nice touch. There's both shade and sun in the park and even a vegetable garden. I enjoyed seeing a pavilion from Taiwan and a Confucius statue from China. I've come here a few times and every time is a different experience.

Great place for the kids. Very informative and had a very friendly staff. Visited 2 times and staff remembered us from a few days earlier. Lots to do!

Beautiful gardens with a great view. There are plenty of places to sit. The parking is limited to 3 hours though and very difficult to aquire. I would have given this 4 stars if the parking had been better.

We were fortunate to visit on the perfect spring day. Lots of flowers and a cool bee swarm... monarchs everywhere. Great place to picnic and relax!

What a pretty garden. It's free to enter and located in the Museum District of Houston, TX. I had a great time walking through this garden. I would recommend close toed shoes as most of the paths are gravel or wood chips. Take the time to climb the hill. There are great views and a small monument at the top.

These gardens are simply stunning. You should definitely come out here to relax, meditate, do yoga and center yourself. Time slows down when you're in the Centennial Gardens. It's the perfect place to take beautiful photos.

Well manicured and beautiful area. Nice place to relax. Usually one or more food trucks around. Several tables in the inner courtyard to sit and have a bite to eat.

Beautiful gardens with nice paths meandering under trees with a variety of plants blooming throughout the summer. Best time to go is Sunday morning while it is still pleasant and not crowded.

Really beautiful place to spend some time. The gardens are really nice, there are plenty of places to set out a picnic or play with the kids in the grass in the beautiful surroundings. Fair amount of shade too, which is nice in the Houston heat. Near the front entrance next to the fountains there are comfortable chairs and tables in a shady area, perfect for taking a break.

Very picturesque space. Great for an evening stroll with lots of benches under the trees. The fountain is beautiful and it has a great variety of beautiful plants. If you visit the museum of natural science then a walk in the gardens is the perfect addition to your trip and it's literally right across the street.

Wonderful place to host a social event or large party. Large rooms with gorgeous views - a full wall of sliding glass doors. Air conditioned with setup areas.

******EVENT VENUE FROM A GUEST'S PROSPECTIVE******** As an event venue McGovern Centennial Gardens is absolutely beautiful and magical. Went for an upscale birthday party after hours and having that beautiful park to yourself is amazing. Guests will be delighted (as I was!). Guests can stroll about at their leisure and there is so much to see. Also the photo ops are absolutely the best. Loved the Water Fall. Would definitely recommend for a venue.

The McGovern Centennial Garden is just as elegant as it sounds. From its beautiful flowers, to its admirable environment it is by all means a " chill place to be". It offers plenty of running space for those that jog all over Hermann Park, it is also a great place for picnics with its well taken care of grass, and dog-friendly just make sure that if your pet does " take care of business " to clean up after. I often go to jog with my pups and not a problem occurs. It is a great place to study as well as to socialize with others. Totally worth going to and plan on heading back to jog some more.
