Miller Outdoor Theatre is an outdoor theater for the performing arts in Houston, Texas. It is located on approximately 7.5 acres (30,000 m2) of land in Hermann Park, at 6000 Hermann Park Drive, Houston, Texas 77030. The theater offers a wide range of professional entertainment, including classical music, jazz, ballet, Shakespeare, musical theater, and classic films, with free performances running from March through November, where the general public can relax in a covered seating area or enjoy a pre-performance picnic on an amphitheatre-style hillside.
Seating is provided for 1,705 patrons, with 20 wheel-chair spaces, plus an 80,000-square-foot (7,400 m2) sloping lawn that accommodates about 4,500 more. The theater building itself consists of a 64' x 41' stage; 54 line sets for hanging lights, curtains, and scenery; an orchestra pit which can be raised and lowered; dressing rooms; offices; a full complement of theatrical equipment; and a 110-ton air conditioning system for cooling the performance area. In its 2010 season, the Miller Outdoor Theatre provided entertainment for more than 430,000 people at 141 performances and events.

Miller Outdoor has been in existence for 95 years and our family(s) have enjoyed a lot of the entertainment and events upon relocating into this great city. There's something always going on at Miller and the events are FREE!! Donations are welcomed to help preserve and continue to promote the talent that is presented. I recommend that you visit Miller Outdoor Theatre. We always have an enjoyable evening when we attend.

Great place to go but.... the sound is not good. both the speakers and the microphones were not correct. Even the vocal/singer was completely muffled and over compressed. The orchestra microphones were of poor quality..... last night the fireworks were awesome. the crowd/attendance was really good. There was very little food and drinks available. Security was done very well and friendly! The shout out to us veterans was a nice touch but they did not cover all the forces.... But appreciated non the less! The city of Houston kind of needs a kick in the butt and asked if quality of life is not as important as their precious bullet train...???....

Great place to spend an evening with the family/friends for free. Just check the schedule to see performances and their times. You can get seating by showing up day off the performance and getting tickets (also free- you just have to claim in person.) Alternatively there is a large lawn area to sit/lay and enjoy the shows as well.

I love seeing the different performances here. The architectural concept of the stage is so that it is safer and shaded, as well as amplifying the sound. Even if you are far away, you can still hear the sounds coming from the stage. This is amazing. It saves you from Sun and rain, and even if there is no performance, you can go and sit there and relax. Miller Outdoor Theater. Thanks! :-)

I don’t know why it took so long for us to discover Miller Outdoor Theatre, but once we did, it has become a favorite destination. Arrive early to get good seats. You won’t be disappointed! I love the variety of performances that reflects the diversity of Houston. Truly a treasure! Can’t wait to see more!

It is a nice place to visit concerts. And above all it is free. The covered seating area is free but ticketed. So if you want to sit in the covered area, you have to buy tickets on the same day in the morning. It can't be bought online. The hill is non-ticketed and a great place to relax, sitting on your picnic blankets under the open sky while enjoying the show. Overall an excellent venue to spend your Friday nights.

Love it! Great theater! Of course the professional ones are better but even the high school ones are good entertainment. Occasional trouble with sound or the mike, and sitting on the grass really doesn't do justice because you can't see much, but all in all one of my favorite past times. Especially in the summer time, even though it's hot, it's bearable at that time of the night.

I love taking my family here. You can bring a whole picnic basket with wine and beer. The shows are always great. The atmosphere is great for our toddler who can run around. Parking is always an issue of course, so we try to arrive early enough to get a spot.

I love Houston for many reasons, summer isn't one of them. That being said Miller Outdoor brings me to sweat through performances every year. It's a better picnic venue than amplitheater, but it's free and quite often entertaining. Pack your blanket and snacks and try to keep it down during the performance... we're pretending to listen.
