Hutton-le-Hole is a small village and civil parish in the Ryedale district of North Yorkshire, England, about 7 miles (11Â km) north-west of Pickering. It is a popular scenic village within the North York Moors National Park. Sheep roam the streets at will.
The village appears in the Domesday Book of 1086 as Hoton. Since then it has been known as Hege-Hoton, Hoton under Heg and Hewton. The name Hutton-le-Hole means place of the burial ground near the hollow, but the full name appears only in the 19th century.
Had a long weekend away and visited the museum on the last day. We have been there a few times and always find something new. We also went to the Barn tea room close by for a pie and pea lunch.....which was delicious.

Took a party of Year 4 kids for a Victorians day - they absolutely loved it. They got to handle lots of artifacts, took part in home and school activities, and explored the site. The staff were experienced and informative, and the activities sparked the kids' imaginations. A great day overall.

Lovely museum in beautiful, idyllic surroundings. Plenty to see and do in the museum that will keep all ages interested. There's even a small art gallery. Definitely one of the best Yorkshire museums you'll find. Parking is available just next door to the museum.

It is a nice place to walk round ideally with children over 7 years old. There is lots to learn about homes through the ages. Cafe was not open at the time of our visit in late October.

On e of the most interesting days I have ever spent in a museum. And you do need the best part of a day to take it all in. Helpful enthusiastic staff and well worth a visit. The way they have preserved and displayed many bygones and day to day items I remember as a child is a great credit to them.

I have always loved this museum since first visiting in 1970! It has grown considerably over the years and is a wonderful place to lose yourself in the past. Such a lot to see there. Nothing else like it. Recommended!

Great place to visit. Lots to see & learn about the history of the area. Plan 3hrs to take it all in. We enjoyed feeding the pigs too. The curator too time out to talk to us in more detail, as did her husband who told us about the 100yr old sweet peas.

Brilliant museum, very interesting. Gives good insight into years gone by. Last visit was 2014 and lots of additions and improvements to grounds. Gift shop has plenty to offer with reasonable prices. The area itself is beautiful with amazing scenery.

A fascinating place. It feels like a long way from the main road but keep going. It looks really quite small from the outside but this place is deceptively big. Inside there is a good variety of traditional village shops (blacksmiths shop with a demonstration, pharmacy, general store, tinworkers, undertakers etc) plus a variety of different homes from a workers cottage to a bothy. There is also a roundhouse and so much more. Just when you think that you've seen everything you'll find that you haven't. We were there for more than 4 hours. Very good value. There isn't a cafe but you can go out to eat at the local cafe or pub and then come back in or you can bring a picnic like we did, if the weather permits. There are lots of nice places to sit. All in all a good day out.
