Beautiful and surprising selection of modern Turkish art works! There you have a high quality collection of paintings!
Definitely one of the best museums to visit in Istanbul. Perfect location just few steps away from Tophane metro station. However, the noisy construction works outside (August 2016) do not give the impression a hidden gem is lying behind. The permanent collection is interesting, diverse and well-selected and the contemporary exhibitions are really great. The stories the artworks tell about Turkey and the Turks are unbeatable, at least for Middle-Easterner like me. The ongoing exhibitions during my visit in August 2016 were: Artists in Their Time, Masters of Cinema in Turkey: Lütfi Akad, İnci Eviner Retrospective: Who's Inside You?, and my favourite: People Attract People. A display of the works of 80 photographers from Turkey about Turkey, shot over a period of 80 years, People Attract People was touching and really amazing. Quick facts: - The admission fees are 25 TL. - The employees at the reception are welcoming and they speak English. - The museum contains a cinema, a library and a store. - You can borrow sitting stools from the cloakroom on the upper floor to paint at the museum. - You can fill a review form about the museum and the exhibitions at the front desk on your way out. I give Istanbul Museum of Modern Art a rating of 8/10 till the construction works outside are done and a small garden, water fountain, and some big trees are added to the outdoor space. Update (June 2018): the museum moved to this new location. The 2 bottom quick facts above didn't seem to be still valid. I modified the rating to 5/5. Well-deserved.
This museum or maybe rather a center, shows a good variety of the art with a modern agenda. I was really surprised by the Turkish artists, except from the international ones. I would definitely recommend a visit for the artlovers out there. This place is also very close to good food and drinks afterwards.
Riverside museum with Turkish & international modern & contemporary art collections. Amazing place, modern building and picturesque views. Breathtaking artworks won't leave anyone indifferent.
Wonderful pieces of inspiring and intimidating art. Variety of paintings and sculptures. Has a nice souvenir shop and a cafe with a beautiful view.
The original location has sadly closed. The museum has moved to a swing space in Beyoglu until their new Renzo Piano building is ready. This was the first private art museum dedicated to modern art in Istanbul, and the permanent collection is wonderful. Can’t wait to see what they do with the new spaces.
Best modern art museum in the city. May renew the showcases more often though. Great location, however there is an ongoing construction that has been done for quite some time. Don't know what that is all about. There is an open car park too.
Istanbul Modern is TEMPORARILY CLOSED. The museum website reported thar they are leaving for a while due to the construction of the new museum building which hosted the museum for 14 years and welcomed over 7 million visitors. Istanbul Modern will continue its current activities in the temporary space in Beyoğlu until the new museum building planned to be completed in the near future, with the same enthusiasm. *** Up-to-date information on the new opening date can be found on the museum's website or on its social media accounts.
Terrible exhibition order -- just all pulled up upon each other. Almost no political at. An emphasis is made on aesthetic to please tourists eyes. If you are into art, go to see some exhibition openings instead, don't waste your time.
huge complex with annual & weekly expeditions. easy to transport, close to tram station. you can attend free on thursdays. has a souvenir shop. downside is the construction around harbour, the sound, mud & the mess.
If you want to see real Modern Art you have to go to this place. Perfect atmosphere and collection. it also has a very nice view and very nice cafe.
A great space, amazing views & beautiful collection... All curated for an unforgettable experience I've had in Istanbul. Add to it as well the restaurant/bar to complement the day there. Easily could spend 3-4 hrs there
This is one of the best museums in Istanbul. It is located in a really nice spot with a view of the sea. It has two floors. One is filled mostly with the permanent collection which includes a good variety of local artists. The other floor holds temporary exhibitions which vary in type and content. It is big enough the spend a few hours on a visit but not too big that you get lost and can’t see all of the artwork. There is a nice restaurant inside the museum as well. Also the museum shop usually has really cool design items. Definitely recommend visiting this museum if you’ve never been.
