The Agora of Smyrna, alternatively known as the Agora of İzmir (Turkish: İzmir Agorası), is an ancient Roman agora located in Smyrna (present-day İzmir, Turkey). Originally built by the Greeks in the 4th century BC, the agora was ruined by an earthquake in 178 AD. Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius ordered its reconstruction. Excavations started in 1933. In 2020, the Agora of Smyrna became a Tentative World Heritage Site as part of "The Historical Port City of Izmir."

A must visit place in izmir ,especially traveller who interested Archaeological spots its build 4th century BC , Smyrna's ancient agora was ruined in an earthquake in AD 178 but soon rebuilt by order of the Roman emperor Marcus Aurelius. The reconstructed Corinthian colonnade and Faustina Gate are eye-catching, but the vaulted chambers and cisterns in the basements of the two stoas (basilicas) are even more interesting, giving visitors a good idea of how this rectangular-shaped, multilevel marketplace would have looked in its heyday. Archaeological investigations are still underway.

Interesting for history buffs. There is a decent amount to explore, but you have to wander to find it (it's not immediately apparent how to get down to the lower level, but you should go.) Lovely archways. Some portions were gated or taped off. Free WC inside. 10TL entrance fee.

Beautiful ancient Greek ruins but the thing is that they don't respect them so much and the agora is kind of dirty
