The Johor Zoo (Malay: Zoo Johor) is a 12.5 ha (31 acres)-wide zoo in Johor Bahru, Johor, Malaysia with more than 100 animal species in the zoo displayed in 28 exhibits such as gorillas, elephants, flamingos, horses and lions. It is located 1 km from Johor Bahru City Centre and is the only zoo administered by a state government in Malaysia.
The zoo was opened in 1928 by His Royal Highness Almarhum Sultan Sir Ibrahim Ibni Almarhum Sultan Sir Abu Bakar and named as the Kebun Binatang, which is Malay for Animal Garden, or zoo and was the first of its kind in Southeast Asia at that time. On 1 April 1962, the zoo was handed over to Johor State Government and opened to the public that same year.
It's a pretty okay zoo. Despite all the no littering signs, people still litter. The place seems dirty, especially the walls. Maybe a new coat of paint would do. Overall quite cheap and has decent range of animals. 2rm for adult tickets.

Simple zoo. Really cheap to visits. Parking is just in front of entrance. Got variety of animals you wish. Drinks and foods are plenty, inexpensive considering it is sell inside a zoo. Few activities to be involved as horse riding for kids, animal feedings at a very cheap charge. Nice to visit anytime.

Need to improve more facility, compare to 10 years ago and now there is lot of improvement and there still few room of improvement is required. I will still come again. Nice to visit and support zoo. Your visit make different.

Zoo is well kept and clean. The animals looked well taken care off. Food to be fed to the animals are sold at reasonable prices. The staff are courteous and efficient. Great experience + great family outing location.

What you pay is what you get. RM2.00 gets you a run down zoo, with sad and miserable looking animals in small enclosures. Not to mention it is unclean, and it smells! Elephants were so depressing they faced a wall the entire time. Tiger was caged instead of roaming in the display pen, and there was a ostrich-like bird that was pecking on a plastic rubbish. By far the most horrible zoo I have visited. It is embarrassing.

Its very nice place to spend 3-4 hours for super low budget plan since the ticket costs only 2 RM! Variety of animals are existing. the Zoo Well organized and staff are friendly. Highly recommend 👍

After 30 + years I revisited our Zoo and looks I need to wait another 30 since only some effort are made to make the zoo current. Only enjoyed the Camel and Deer feeding area, other than that too few animals that are active. Try harder Johor and I'm hope it won't too long for me to return .

My kids love this place so much...this is the oldest zoo in Johor.. though it look small and somewhere in town, but there are lots of animals you can check out here... There are small stalls so dont worry in case you get hungry or thisty.. Most important the entrance fees is unexpected RM2.00 (adult) and RM 1.00 (children)..amazing isn't..

The zoo is located in the center of the town. It has a very low and affordable entrance fees. I can see it was well maintained and was quite clean. We went there for a charity event, where we were allowed to feed the selected animals. Not sure whether feeding animals are allowed on normal days. Another thing to mention was the staffs working around who were very helpful and friendly. It is a suitable place for kids, adults and also elderly people. The only thing is the zoo is not very big and the tour around can be completed by half day. Since it was located along side of the road, you would need to search for a parking spot. There are tigers, tapirs, elephants, crocodile, camel, Iguana, reptiles, monkeys and also horses. Sometimes there are elephants show would be available, but check the schedule with the zoo staffs. As I think it was not in a fixed time. Apart from this there is a small store located in the zoo which is selling foods and drinks or even snacks. A photo booth is also available where the staff will take you pictures and print it for you for some amount of charges. It would be a good quick weekend getaway in the town.

Very good place to spend time with family. Although the area is not big, but the species of animal is a lot. Well organized place also. The entrance ticket is only RM 2 for adult, RM1 for kid. Free entrance for kid age below 2 years old. All the animals look healthy and active. Environment is clean. Staff are friendly and helpful.

Except for the very cheap tickets, and the large number of animals, it was bad as hell. The animals are dirty, sick and sad. We could smell bad smells everywhere. The lions and tigers are miserable and their places are so dirty and dumb. The monkeys seemed so hungry begging for food. I don't know how the animal rights organizations are keeping it open torturing the animals like that. They'd better increase the ticket price and provide better care for the animals or close it. It needs a good management, why keeping all that number of animals of the same species, while they can sell some and provide care for the rest.

Johor zoo is a place to bring you kids in an outing place and learning about animal at the same time. Their location is in thr heart of johor city center and quite big. They have many kinds of animal. Not that big like in Singapore Zoo, but it's worth it. To get inside, for adults is 2 rm and kids 1 rm. It's free for baby and below 2 years. You and your kids could also give food to some animals like camel, elephant, horse and duck or paddling boat with bird. I am happy to bring my little baby here.

So much fun for rm2! Got my picture with a parrot for rm5. So many animals to see! Though the other reviewers are right, they do seem quite miserable. It was raining when we went, so we sat near the elephants and watched them. ^^ definitely worth the asking price.
