Udawattakele Forest Reserve, often spelled as Udawatta Kele, is a historic forest reserve on a hill-ridge in the city of Kandy. It is 104 hectares (257 acres) large. During the days of the Kandyan kingdom, Udawattakele was known as "Uda Wasala Watta" in Sinhalese meaning "the garden above the royal palace". The sanctuary is famous for its extensive avifauna. The reserve also contains a great variety of plant species, especially lianas, shrubs and small trees. There are several giant lianas. Many of small and medium size mammals that inhabit Sri Lanka can be seen here. Several kinds of snakes and other reptiles might be seen. Udawattakele was designated as a forest reserve in 1856, and it became a sanctuary in 1938.

Nice place to wander around. Saw a lot of monkeys and a small deer. Not that clear where to go to get in and out.
Good place to visits with groups. Couples are not allowed since there has been some bad things happening in the past. There is a viewpoint where you can see the kandy city from top.
Wonderful forest. Many nice things to see. Well worth the visit if you want to go for a nice hike and get away from the city buzz.
Located inside the middle of Kandy city and once u enter u can feel that your inside a forest middle of the city. Lots of birds to explore. Nice pathways through the forest. Don’t feed monkeys on the way because if you feed one the whole group of monkeys will come for food and sometimes they get little aggressive.
One of good forest can travel inside. It really good fell free.. when mix with neature that is best medicine for mind can get from anywhere
Great Place for short trip in the wilderness. This was the royal forest park for the king during the Kandyan era. Currently a forest sanctuary. There is an information center located inside the forest. There's a entrance fee that has to be paid at the gate. internal walkways are well marked and named.
Brilliant eco system situation a very short distance from Kandy Town. Early morning visit guarantees a cornucopia of sights and sounds. In addition to the delightful birds sounds of the morning chorus you should see wild. Boar, you barking deer and plenty of herds of monkeys foraging the undergrowth. Be prepared to spend a relaxing two or more hours exploring the trails.
This is one of the coolest places in the Kandy city. Just can escape from the hustle and bustle of the city to engulf in a peaceful surrounding. Very nice staff and beautiful place.
there isnt any wildlife in this place other than monkeys and birds that you see all around this region. There is a pathway and quiet a few tourists end up here as its a decent hike on a easy trail with no major climbs. The place son the map like cave temple are not really accessible as entry is forbidden so it's just the forest for you. There are some interesting plants and trees including a rare tree size creeper that is spread over a large area in the forest. The prices are same for all foreigners including saarc nation citizens.
Nice and peaceful. We paid 1325 rupees for 2 tickets. 4 stars as the lady on the gate was really slow and I'm pretty sure tickets should have been cheaper. Also don't bother with the hermit cave at the top of the park, there's nothing there. Same with the upper veiw point in the centre of the park, it's surrounded by trees so you can't see anything.
Great cityscape. Wonderful, relaxing, fresh air, lots of animals and wonderful plants and trees. Definitely go!
Such a nice place to be in the busy Kandy. Go there early morning where you can see the sun light coming through the trees. It will take at least like 4 hours to enjoy this place truly. Take your foot cycles to this place because they do allow you to ride it inside for some places. Parking available. Only cash payments are accepted for tickets.
Great jungle forest park. Clear paths for the less adventurous. Birds, deer, monkeys and few insects. Lovely times.
The best place to get away from the busy town and into the deep dark woods to relax and enjoy the beauty of nature at its best!! Lovely to walk around and see animals roaming freely!! I saw a lot of monkeys and deers. Do visit this place if u come to Kandy.
Greatest day admiring the natural forest. We was able to plan a short trip there. Allowing our time to move in a positive way. While traveling deep part of the jungle we was able to see some animals on their natural habitat and many kinds of trees. There are some rock caves too
