An unbelievable sight. The former Royal family lived here up until 2008. The Palace will give you a glimpse into the life of the royals. I have never seen so many tiger pelts in my life. While most definitely opulent and far nicer than the living conditions of the average Nepali, the place feels dated. Security is really strict here. You can only visit on certain days and cameras are strictly prohibited. Plan accordingly.

Wonderful museum to get a peak into the Royal Life. Everything is grand and you can feel the greatness surrounding the place. Yet you see that everything was not languorously luxurious, the items were simple and sober. They don't let you take the camera in, but you can imagine how the Royal lives would have been. And Yes, to see that many animal skins feels depressing, you can see the pain in the eyes of the animals.

The palace and grounds itself was beautiful, lovely and serene but it seemed in desperate need of proper maintenance. Everything like the legacy of the monarch was wilting, withering, fading away into a state of disrepair and disregard. As a tourist this was something that was starkly apparent to me.

For me as a Foreigner it was kinda boring. No photos allowed. As a local I'm sure this place would be great. I just didn't find it very interesting.

The two main problems were not being provided enough information about the history of the place and its inhabitants while paying a relatively high price (as a foreigner) for a dusty, smelly place which apparantly no one looks after. It seems that the entrance fee I payed only supported some random guys and women hanging around doing nothing while we, the visitors, where rushed through a ridiculous small part of the palace. And it was not even allowed to take pictures of all the rotten carcasses of tigers, elephants and rhinoceros which gave off this stench. Definitely not recommended

This is certainly an interesting place. Sorely lacking in historical details of the monarchy and what they accomplished. But artifacts, and historical items are in great condition. A bit more maintenance required. The palace is under army control and all rooms are heavily guarded. No photographs allowed. Cell phones, cameras and bags need to be checked in prior to entry. Outdoor massacre area was certainly very interesting to a lot of visitors. I personally found it to be least entertaining. Obviously, the massacre itself was pivotal to Nepal's history and opening up to tourism shortly after the Uncle took over the monarchy and after the end of the monarchy. Not much information about all that is presented. So if you see looking to learn something about the history of the monarchy, turn to several published books instead.

I would say that the arrangements of the museum was successful preserving the essence of the royals and their memories. Walk around the beautiful garden was peaceful and tranquil. But the tour became melancholic toward the end when we walked in to the area where the royal family was brutally shot.

The famous place attached with the history of the shah dynasty ruling the country Nepal with the glorious history. This place was the official residence of the Royal family and after the country came with the federal state the as being a ceremonial king the king was overthrown from this palace and now converted into the palace museum which is now open for public to visit inside of the palace. This palace consists of the different valuable materials of the Royal family.

This palace is amazing.. The history of Nepal can be found still inside it.. The secret of massacre of King birendra can also be found.. But we Nepalese should be able to explore it..

History is such, just few years back, one had to take out the word "museum" to call this place. Yes, it was just the Narayanhiti Palace. A place of exercising supreme power and the highest authority for the entire country of Nepal. Kings, queens, princes, princess and other royal members used to live and rule the nation from here. It was the symbol of prosperity, authority, power, and fear. But the time has changed now. It has been converted into a museum where one can feel lavishness or simplicity, as you perceive it, of the Royals. Visiting the place, excites your enthusiasm and initiate your reflection that "everything changes". Nothing is permanent; not even the power of supreme Royals.

A very beautiful palace with well preserved annals. This place should be visited by anyone interested in Nepal's cultural heritage.

Needs better maintenance and introduction of self-guided audio tours for the management to make the most of the palace's rich history. A gift shop selling souvenirs such as coffee table books, miniature replicas of the palace, postcards, etc would also help generate much needed revenue. Crowd control needs to be improved around the phone/bag deposit windows.

I would have given 5 star as there were more ethnic piece and the auxiliary items but now, there is just few photos and some rare skin of animals and that's all. i wonder where all the properties have disappeared.
