BEWARE: PARKING TRAP! I paid for 1 hour of parking, was here for 1 hour and TWO MINUTES and received a £100 parking fine. Why this visitor centre has such strict parking regulations when the only people parked here are their own customers I have no idea. What could have been an otherwise lovely afternoon visit has been deeply soured by the land owners greed to bring in extra money from their cut of parking fines.
Five adults enjoyed the simple pleasures of crazy golf, a tropical butterfly house, and a small but annoyingly awkward maze in the lovely surroundings of the Wye Valley near Ross on Wye. Helped by glorious sunshine we easily took 3 hours to complete the visit, and left far more relaxed than we were before. Great staff, fun activities and unique enough to remember. Thoroughly recommend this place.
Lovely spot to while away an hour or so, big hit with my 6 year old butterfly fan! Butterflies seem really well looked after, great set up, clean and tidy and the young staff were great. Parking was £4, you get £2 off of your entrance ticket if you show your parking ticket. All in all, a fair price for a nice little attraction.
The farm itself is a lovely day out. However the day was ruined by their parking system. I paid the parking charge for a 4hr stay and still came away with a £100 parking fine! Good job I took a photo as proof of the ticket In my car window. But why should visitors have to take extra measures to protect themselves from the Parking Eye fines!
Magical place full of multi coloured butterflies. It is small and at £4.50 each for adults this makes it a bit expensive when you consider you will probably spend an hour there at most due to its size and the heat. But although this is tucked into a site with more traditional holiday attractions ( mini golf, maze and Lazer Combat) it is a conservation centre so you need to take into account your money is helping preserve and learn about these stunning insects. You are also able to come back as may times as you want that day. We felt it was well worth it as it is an amazing experience and very well run. The site has toilets and a really nice cafe and is close to the River Wye with footpaths if you want to combine the visit with exploring the area. The car park is free
Incredibly priced (£3.50!), both individually and if you buy in conjunction with the other attractions at the location. The management have also been very thoughtful of the little things: they provide you with somewhere to hang your coat/jumper so you don't get too warm; there is a hand-washing station and mirror before you leave so you can check for any passengers; you are loaned a magnifying glass so you can have a good inspection of the caterpillars and butterflies; and you are provided with a handful of laminated sheets as a 'spotter's guide'. Could the quality of the images be better? Perhaps. Or a physical description as well could have helped to clarify sometimes. However, my friend Sharon and I spent about an hour in the 'glasshouse' simply mesmerized by the butterflies. Of course, we may have left a bit sooner if it hadn't been for a stubborn stow away that clung desperately to Sharon's leg for at least four minutes! The gift shop had a wide selection of related products (books, toys, bug hotels, etc.) including some rather individual jewellery made out of recycled clock pieces. Considering the typical mark up at gift shops, the Wye Valley Butterfly Zoo kept its prices very sensible: I bought a couple of the clock piece necklaces for £10 each. A charming place to spend some time. We certainly spent plenty, and we were a pair of 30 year olds!
Good old fashioned fun, kids absolutely love the butterflies. Staff were really helpful especially with our daughter who was a little nervous of the butterflies landing on her, they provided an explorer hat with netting which did the trick. Keep coming back especially when the weather is bad.
Always great. Children love it. You get refunded your parking charge when to buy entry.
A nice place for an hour or so. Everyone seemed to enjoy it. Usefully there’s an indoor picnic area next door.
Great place for a rainy day lots to see inside and very pleasant and helpful staff. Coffee shop on site. Will take up a good half day. Wheelchair access good.
Decent price. Quite small to walk around and wouldn't really spend too much time in here. Helpful staff. Nice way to spend a little time
