My dad and I stopped off on our way back from completing Catbells. We absolutely loved it! My dad has a huge interest in trains and museums and loved the journey on the mini train up into the quarry. Would certainly recommend to families, the elderly and disabled people alike.

Excellent place to visit and very informative well worth the ridiculous low prices, don't listen to the bad reviews on TripAdvisor!

Lot of history in this place. The train was a proper rustic coal powered steam train We came in end of July at 12.00pm and we were the only family on the train! Museum was very detailed with loads of information about different rocks and how they are mined. They offered a "mining tour" but we didn't do that as it's not properly underground, so very safe for young children. Overall a very pleasant day out for a family with young children or a grandparents and grandchildren day out.

A must visit for anyone interested in old industrial machinery, set in some wonderful countryside. Every one who works here, mainly enthusiast volunteers, is brimming with knowledge and enthusiasm for what they do. Try and go on a day when they steam up the Hooley, I believe this is the oldest working steam navvy in the country, and bas been lovingly restored by the museum. There is a small gauge steam train which can transport you around the site, a mining museum and a cafe. This is not an ultra modern, gadget filled theme park style venue, but for the enthusiast a place to don your boots and wrap up on a cool day!

So much to see and do with very friendly, chatty, knowledgeable staff. Never realised this place existed until last year on a walk past it. Nothing fancy about it and very reasonable charges. Hope this place continues as not many places like this left.

Didn't enter the museum as children didn't want to, but went on the lovely little train ride which was enjoyed by all

If you are looking for an interactive experience without lights & electronic frills then this may be for you. Run by mature enthusiasts the site offers kids & adults the opportunity to explore many types of industrial vehicles, ride a train to the quarry, explore the mine on a guided tour, pan for gold in the creek and browse the geological exhibits in the museum.

Fantastic little museum feature, not well publicised. Community run asset. Cannot recommend this highly enough

I like the small steam train trip most. It is so romantic and basic technology reminding the golden past. Mine trip was cancelled due to few participants.
