The Orkney Wireless Museum in Kirkwall, Orkney, Scotland, houses a collection of domestic and military wireless equipment. It developed from the private collection of the late Jim MacDonald from St Margaret's Hope and marks the importance of wireless communications in Orkney during World War II.
The Orkney Wireless Museum is located at Kiln Corner, Kirkwall in Orkney and is run on an entirely voluntary basis. It is registered as a Charitable Company. The Friends of the museum, from all over the world, help raise funds for the museum. The local branch of the society organises volunteers to man the Museum every day of the season, from April to September.
A quirky place, set up by an enthusiast and continued by keen volunteers. Masses of old radios and ancilliary items. You will learn a lot, particularly about the role of radio operators working in Orkney and elsewhere during the war.

Fascinating collection of historic radio equipment. Well organised and detailed by a soley volunteer staff. Worth a visit if you've any technical interest. Look out for special events, when the amateur radio station is up and running.

An interesting place, full of history pieces. Learnt a lot, mostly thanks to the volunteer in charge that day.

Small but very interesting, and the volunteers that run it have interesting stories to tell about the museum and the local history.

This is a brilliant little museum, a real trip down memory lane. The museum us packed full of old radios and yesteryear memorabilia. Entrance costs £3 and you can enjoy the different exhibits. I was particularly interested in the archive photo collection which has been put together. This museum is run entirely by volunteers and they make your visit worthwhile.

I'm not a particular fan of radios but my brother is, and I didn't think I'd like it much but it was really good and had some interactive stuff too. My brother also really enjoyed it.
