The Ferens Art Gallery is an art gallery in the English city of Kingston upon Hull. The site and money for the gallery were donated to the city by Thomas Ferens, after whom it is named. The architects were S. N. Cooke and E. C. Davies. Opened in 1927, it was restored and extended in 1991. The gallery features an extensive array of both permanent collections and roving exhibitions. Among the exhibits is a portrait of an unknown woman by Frans Hals. The building also houses a children's gallery and a popular cafe. The building is now a Grade II listed building.
In 2009, an exhibition and live performance took place at the venue, to help celebrate the 25th anniversary of the opening of The New Adelphi Club, a live music venue less than 2 miles (3Â km) north.
Brilliant volunteers too! Especially Elaine. So nice to talk to.

Visited primarily to see the 2017 Turner Prize finalists but should have left more time to enjoy the exquisite permanent collections too. Cafe looks lovely too. Well worth the visit.

Ferens Art Gallery is excellent in all ways and can easily compete (and beat!) with other renowned galleries. The art collection is varied and of a very high class. Very helpful and pleasant staff. The gallery layout is fantastic. Not to be missed!

Ferens is such a wonderful attribute to our city centre and I've been a regular visitor since i was born. It's been through a few quiet and bland years but I'm so happy to see it recently rejuvenated and full of life again! It's become really popular and you will have to get there early to appreciate quiet times. The staff are really welcoming and knowledgeable.

Went to see the children's TV throughout the ages and really enjoyed it. It certainly brought back some memories to the embassement of my lad although he did enjoy it as well.

The Bagpuss Exhibition was lovely. Even though my girls did not know who Bagpuss was they found it interesting. Took the opportunity to browse the gallery as well and found it fascinating.

Varied collections of art from the 1600s to modern times. Special exhibition when we went was the work of Oliver Postgate, (Bagpuss, Noggin the Nog and Clangers!!)

OK, so an art Gallery needs to be treated with respect and I get that. But there was a big thing in the paper about the exhibition being accessible to all and children invited. Children need to be considered/managed better by this facility though. There is little point telling children that they are welcome, cannot touch anything and then putting a piece of blue cloth over a low "coffee" table and then getting tetchy when kids touch "the art". For crying out loud it's a blue table cloth on a kids table to them! Fortunately our kids are quite well behaved, but it was too stressful to keep telling them off so we left early. Loads of other parents were struggling with their kids too! Won't be rushing back!
