There's something about sitting alone in dim stainglass light listening to the morning mass. This massive landmark is worth a visit, it's free to browse around, why not? Of course, to go up, you need to pay a little. You see it as soon as you step out of the train station. Also it's helpful to use it as a reference while exploring the city because of how visible it is at any point in the city.
Very beautiful. So close to the train station. I went during the beginning of winters, so could witness the amazing effect of playful sunlight. The colour of the cathedral changed from dark to bright as the sun shone through the clouds. It's just beautiful. There's a market closeby, don't forget to buy Cologne (perfume) and eat pretzels!
Its the thing to see in Cologne. You don't need to spend much time in this town outside of that. I'm rating the cathedral 4-stars not the area. Plenty of shopping and food around. You also can go inside to see the inner workings of cathedral but are very limited to where you can go. If you get a chance, go during a service and listen to the choir. Hearing those voices in the environment alone is worth the trip.
A fascinating feat of Gothic architecture, the cathedral took its time being built - one of the world's longest construction projects, which lasted several centuries from the start to completion. A place of worship, which contains the relics of the Three Kings, the cathedral is also a huge tourist magnet. A visit is definitely recommended - unmissable.
Very old cathedral. The architecture of the cathedral is unique. The interior is so beautiful, there is glass painting of olden century. The colour of the whole cathedral is very natural. There are statues at the entrance. It is very historical place and must visit place. There are also good shopping and eatery places little away from the cathedral. You can buy warm clothes, electronic gadget, cosmetics, jackets, bags, and dresses at good price.
A Great architectural master-piece taking more than 500 years to complete. It has lots of stairs but a very peaceful,, soulful place to visit especially if you are in that part of Germany .A must-visit place for tourist visiting cologne. Amazing to look at both from within and externally. A guided tour will give you the history of the place and how it was built. Its close to train station so you can go whereever you want ..i love the place..architecture.There is also a place inside to donate something to charity.A must see place for everyone....
It is very beautiful and amazing. And also around it, you can enjoy seeing people singing. I have a good memories there.
... one of the most impressive buildings ever made. Strated 750 years ago and under construction and renovation since then. A place to visit and take in. It is breathtaking.
This is one of the best cathedrals in the world. It's absolutely breathtaking! It's too big to even comprehend. The architecture all around the church is beautiful and detailed. The inside of the church is also stunning and peaceful. Even with thousands of people in the church at a time you can still feel the silence. This is truly a place to visit if you're going to Germany!!
I heard great things about the cathedral and how magnificent it was. I took it with a grain of salt but when you stand outside it phenomenal. It towers above you. The real show is the inside. It's beautiful! The architecture that must've went into it must've been a pain but it's worth it because they made an amazing cathedral. It's a must-do if you visit Cologne
One of the best cathedral I have ever visited. It looks very very beautiful with great architecture for both inside and outside. I felt very peaceful when staying in the cathedral. Interestingly, although the temperature outside is either too hot or too cold, the temperature inside is comfortable.
an amazing cathedral which is called Dom. it's built in the 13th century and took 632 years to do so. withstood 14 bombings during World war two when 90% of Koln was destroyed. But nothing happened to Dom. Thus People have faith in the Cathedral. Further the Milan Madonna and the Shrine of the 3 wise men add to the faith quotient. The stained glass is fantastic and the various small alters are lit with candles. The atmosphere here is very peaceful and serene. Definitely worth a visit
Saw some stunning architecture and some impressive religious artifacts all while having freedom of the church to wander around in. Can get very busy but just avoid the tour groups and you'll be fine. Make sure (if you are physically fit) that you climb the tower, it's cheap and one of the most challenging things I've done in Europe. Absolutely beautiful views of the city from the top and a sense of achievement when you reach it's peak. Definitely bring water though.
One of the most beautiful Churches in the world is the Cathedral of Cologne! History says this Dom was almost totally bombed during WW11 but was restored slowly but gloriously! Worth the visit, this Dom is magnificent in all aspects. The architecture and interiors are fantastic. A lot of interesting facts about this very old Cathedral..the towers and spires built in ancient times. This Cathedral is now added to the UNESCO World Heritage List. There are many souvenir shops and cafes and restaurants around the corner and many artists and musicians doing some entertaining tactics to the crowd. The Central Railway Station is just a few steps to this Dom. This place is always jam pack all year round, one must be careful with your purse, many pickpocketing happens here!
Definitely worth a visit. Stunning Gothic cathedral with amazing art inside. Give yourself some time to explore it completely, because it's really worth it. I have been there three times and I am always happy to pay a visit. On weekends it gets quite crowded, but it is to be expected, since it's one of the main attractions in Cologne
Cologne Cathedral is next to the central railway station so is easy to get to. This is a wonderful building. Give yourself at least 2 hours to really go around the outside and see the inside. It stands alone as the most magnificent building in the city. Whether you simply want a place to say a prayer or just visit an amazing cathedral, this in our view is the best we saw in Europe.
U will definitely be amazed by the beautiful, soul healing and mind refreshing place! I got up to roof top. It costs 4 euro per person. The stairs is vintage design. The upper the narrower. Please wear proper shoes and clothings. I am not a religious person but this place simply made me feel so calm and peaceful. It must require a strong mind and spirit for the people who built it.
My favorite place and church in Germany. Since fourteen years I’m continually going there. Spending long time there. Feeling fantastic and sacred. Even it’s a tourist place the atmosphere here is fantastic. Well maintained. Lots learn from inside.
Be careful with your neck when you look up to check the entire Cathedral. What can I say? The reason why many people go visit Cologne and I understand them. It is beautiful. Some parts are in maintenance, so the perfect photo is not easy. It is also crowded, so don't be surprised. Still, it is a functioning church and you can do your prayers there.
