The collection is pretty interesting, they have some good installations and arts to see, especially the contemporary ones. (but not as impressive as the major contemporary art museums in the world like MOMA). They also did a good job to explain the art history in a very understandable way-I would say they are the best in putting it in plain language instead of hard-core art critique style. However, I would say the art space is a very industrial. It feels like a bit of distraction to the art actually. I think if they could renovate and adjust the lighting in the exhibition rooms will be great.
Very cool art museum. They had an awesome James Rosenquist travelling exhibit while I was there. Remember to look for the space bacon themes throughout the work. I really enjoyed the piece with the time dust and the sailboat making its way through. Some of the work in this museum was a bit disturbing.
a real nice museum. nice for the building first. like a big ship, with so much inspiration. king of Titanic view, Baroque, 20's,.... all was also fine to leave a nice view on the outside. don't hesitate to ask for a card for the locker at the desk. it's €2 caution, don't forget to take the card back at the end. for the exhibition, it's great. a lot of Picasso. you'll see also Andy Warhol, Lichtenstein, Picabia,.... you may spend a day in the museum if your quite interested by modern art.
Pretty decent modern art museum. Has a good picasso collection. Not too crowded and the place is massive! Perhaps too many things to take in. Price of admission is a little steep. As an added bonus you can get great views of city from the museum.
Thoroughly enjoyed watching people here as they looked thoughtfully at, quite frankly, rubbish artwork. I'm clearly not an artsy person as looking at paintings of hairy genitals and space bacon just didn't inspire me. However, seeing a man nodding approvingly at a 3meter tinfoil wall slab did give me great joy. I love pretentious art folk, and this museum was full of them!
Great museum for the people who are loving modern art close to the train station and the dome. I have seen paintings and sculptures from Picasso, Dali, Warhol, Mondrian and many more! The museum has three levels which you can visit. You can leave you're bag and jacket at the cloakroom downstairs. Definitely worth a visit if you are planning you're trip to Cologne.
If you have time to spare, Ludwig museum is nice stop to visit. You will enjoy, search for meanings in this pop-art museum. A lot of interesting things to see here.
Located next to the Cathedral, great collection of modern art. It includes works from Pop Art, Abstract and Surrealism, and has one of the largest Picasso collections in Europe. There are painting from Dali, Warhol, Mondrian and many others. If you have the chance, it is very nice place to visit :)
The art collection stands alone. It is a superb building with really friendly and helpful staff. Photographs are permitted inside which is an excellent allowance.
I can say it was the best modern art museum in Cologne to visit. It has a various number of pieces of art from different well-known artists like Picasso. There's also a pop art unit which is showcasing advertisements which I personally found really interesting. In general I can say it's a must-see in Cologne especially if you're interested in Modern Art.
The modern artworks are interestingly displayed. The description for each artwork is too small though, and we are not allowed to look closer. They should have make the descriptions bigger. I also expected more exhibitions or an activity that I could engage in.
I was in a business trip in kohl and I was thrilled to visit this place. Great museum with many famous artists. Would love to visit again because two hours were not enough.
Everything was excellent, we've eaten here THREE TIMES this week! The Chanterelle mushrooms in the risotto were like something out of a dream! The salads are to die for. The blueberry--lavender lemonade was unbelievable. There hasn't been one thing we've eaten that wasn't phenomenal!! Their own farm to table menu is extremely creative. A must go visit to the restaurant then go to the museum to walk it off.
One of my all time favorite modern and contemporary art museums. The space is beautiful and the museum store/bookshop is worth visiting all on its own. The museum also has great windows and platforms for viewing Cologne from different angles. The temporary exhibitions are also exciting and the permanent collection is worth seeing at least once in your life as it is really unique.
This is a fun museum to go to. They have many modern and minimalist pieces. There are three floors to the museum each with a certain theme. At the top they have a couple pieces from Andy Warhol. Definitely inquire about the museum pass if you come here. For only a couple more bucks you get enterance to a few other museums and free metro for a day.
It's an amazing place to visit! It's a place where you can see masterpieces of the most important artist in the world! Pollock, Picasso, Ernst, Dali, Warhol - so the museum it's worth to visit! Museum is near the main station and the river. Building is also very interesting.
