Saint Mary's Basilica (Polish: Kościół Mariacki) is a Brick Gothic church adjacent to the Main Market Square in Kraków, Poland. Built in the 14th century, its foundations date back to the early 13th century and serve as one of the best examples of Polish Gothic architecture. Standing 80 m (262 ft) tall, it is particularly famous for its wooden altarpiece carved by Veit Stoss (Wit Stwosz). Some of its monumental polychrome murals were designed by Poland's leading history painter, Jan Matejko (1898-1891). In 1978 it became a UNESCO World Heritage Site alongside the Historic Centre of Kraków.
On every hour, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, a trumpet signal—called the Hejnał mariacki—is played from the top of the taller of Saint Mary's two towers. The plaintive tune breaks off in mid-stream, to commemorate a famous 13th century trumpeter who was shot in the throat while sounding the alarm before a Mongol attack on the city. The noon-time hejnał is heard across Poland and abroad broadcast live by the Polish national Radio 1 Station.
I usually don't like churches, but I was completely blown away by this. It is the most impressive place you will see outside of Italy! The ticket prices were worth it, go and admire the amazing architecture.

A very nice basilica with beautiful ceiling but too much hype is there due to central location. A crowded place. Better visit other cathedrals not in the central part of town. Paid entrance. See my pics attached

Wonderful church, much more impressive than Krakow's Cathedral. It is very original in its painted and colourful decoration. Also, it is really worth it to go at 12h30 am to see the triptych get opened. From the outside I really liked the disparate towers and the trumpet sound every hour.

Religious or not this is a place of thinking and soul searching.it puts you right in the mood. The only bad thing is there is a different entrance for tourists (which must pay) and another for prayers.i understand a logic behind it, but a church should not set barriers and be open to feel the magic.

Awesome venue with plenty to see, a wide spreading history and Gothic styling. Wish it was a sunny day as the lighting would have been vastly improved.

Beautiful church in the Main Square. Pay for entry/pass to take pictures next to the church. Worth a visit at least once while in Kraków.

Beautiful church that dominates the picturesque main square. Not only is it beautiful from outside, its well worth it to buy a ticket to see the interior. Visually stunning and something I'm very happy that I was able to see. Well worth the ticket price.

Stunning! One of my favorite churches in the world. I wish they allowed pictures while I was there. Incredibly beautiful. Prayer is distracting because of the beauty, but it takes you to heaven, which is its purpose. I can't wait to go back.

Take a closer look at this church and you will notice that the two towers have different heights. The one with the bell is higher. I have seen enough churches and have decided not go in, but It was highly recommended to me.

What a beautiful church. I highly recommend you going up on the top and have a view of the old town in Krakow. It is a must go place if you love photography ! However, be ware that this is an old church so there is no elevator. You have to walk on stairs to go up and the view definitely worth the effort !

One the most beautiful church I have seen. Gothic architecture is beautiful. Church stands at the center of the city and has been part of the reach history of Kraków. The main altar of this church was stolen and almost destroyed by Nazis but thankfully after some 15 years and lots of restoration this grand and immensely beautiful altar came back home.

A most impressive church that pictures do not do justice. Settled in the Jewish quarter of krakow a beautiful serene place Well worth a look.

Beautiful church. Remember to look up at the blue ceiling after entering. IMPORTANT: Go earlier to ensure the ticket to go up the tower doesn't run out!

Beautiful Church! I heard that the Tartars shoted the priest at the tower with arrow from outside downstairs as he tried to move the bell on 13. Century.
