Das St. Michaelskloster (ukrainisch Михайлівський золотоверхий монастир/Mychajliwskyj solotowerchyj monastyr; russisch Михайловский златоверхий монастырь/Michajlowski slatowerchi monastyr) ist ein Mönchskloster am Michaelplatz im Kiewer Rajon Schewtschenko, Ukraine. Es ist Sitz der Orthodoxen Kirche der Ukraine. Die Klosteranlage befindet sich auf der westlichen Seite des Dneprs am Rand eines Kliffs nordöstlich der Kiewer Sophienkathedrale. Sie belegt eine Fläche von zirka 38.000 Quadratmetern und besteht aus der goldenen Torkirche, der Kathedrale auf ihrem Gelände, einigen ehemaligen Wohnbauten, der Trapezkirche von Johannes dem Täufer (Johann Boguslaw), einem Wirtschaftstor, dem Refektorium und weiteren Gebäuden, die von der Kiewer Theologischen Schule genutzt werden. Vor dem Eingangsportal der Torkirche befindet sich eine Gedenkstätte für die Millionen Opfer des Holodomor, der großen Hungersnot von 1932 bis 1933, die durch falsche Politik Stalins die Ukraine besonders hart traf.
Das Kloster wurde 1936 gesprengt und in den 1990er-Jahren wiederaufgebaut und 1999 eröffnet.

Outside is lovely but the inside is totally stunning. I was absolutely gobsmacked by the beautifully painted frescos, gold-leaf panelling and ornate decor. The ceiling, the walls, even the floor. No space was left unadorned with some form of intricate craftsmanship. Lucky enough to visit just as Sunday morning service was taking place at 10am. I am not a religious person, but the haunting choir music, the atmosphere, richly attired Orthodox Priests and an array of people in deep and personal prayer, it was a wonderful experience.

St. Michael's Monastery is a sight to behold. On a bright sunny day, its golden domes' luster shines bright in all its glory. If you are a tourist, please note that photographs and being on your cellphone is prohibited inside. The inside is entirely gilded with many depictions of icons. You will see many people entering this monastery to pray to whichever icon they worship, so please be mindful that although it is open to tourists, you should behave as though you are one of the regular visitors as to show proper respect. :)
