Great place to relax, have some drinks and eat some good food. If you go by day be sure to visit the 300 steps stair, these stairs take you directly to the Chavon river. Altos de Chavón has some great restaurants/bars/discos, like Onnus, Cafe Marietta and the Living Room, be sure to visit the legendary Genesis Disco. The views of the Chavon river and surrounding area are incredible.
Best place ever!! Nice calm clean you can eat or just hangout with friends or family.
Beautiful country surrounding the area, but not something I would do again...trip there is long and it makes you wonder who had the great idea to put this there...the area around the site is actually more beautiful than the theater area. Loved the little shops overlooking the river. All around a nice day.
Absolutely beautiful, stunning views, restaurants, bars, nightlife and amazing architecture. Great for photos, a must see. For me, the only reason I don't give it 5 stars, is because it isn't actually old. It was built in the 90's. If it were actually old it would be 10 stars.
Disclaimer for this review, I didn't actually make it to this place. It is within some sort of private resort or something and they have tolls you have to pay to get there and then an entrance fee of $25 USD per person. We asked if there was anything else to do without paying the entrance fee but the staff assured me that there wasn't and insisted we pay the fee. Maybe it is a really great view, but from different review sites I saw online, it didn't seem very special. This is ridiculously overpriced compared to most every other place I've been to in the DR. It really is a shame they charge this much because it surely prevents locals from going.
A peaceful and beautiful location built sympathetically to look like an old mediterranean town with bars, restaurants and artisan products.
My daughter and I read many positive reviews so we decided to go. We had a rental car and it was less than a 90 minute drive from our hotel in Punta Cana. First of all be prepared to pay two tolls, one for 100 pesos and the other for 60 pesos. Once we arrived at the turn off we were at the entramce to a large luxury villa development. We were charged 25 USD per person to drive to Altos de Chavon! The "village" was quaint and picturesque but very little was open on a Tuesday morning. A few overpriced boutique stores and a small convenience store and museum were open. There were very few tourists. We walked around the entire village in an hour. For us it was definitely NOT worth the price. We had already spent our shopping budget just to drive in. I guess the admission is a big part of the revenue stream. If you go as part of another excursion it might be ok, but I wouldn't recommend going there on your own. We felt like we wasted half a beach day.
A must to visit! Altos de Chavon is located inside Casa de Campo. This beautiful place has a wonderful view, stores, restaurants and bars.
Visited during our "explore hispaniola island" excursion. Amazing place! Plan to stay here on a future visit to the D.R.
What a place. The view, the vibe and nostalgia. Must see.
Beautiful place! A lot of good views and places to rest. Be prepared, visit of this whole village (Casa De Campo) costs 25 USD/person + requires passport, but it definitely worth it if u like nature and decent experience without tons of tourists.
Beautiful places. It's worth seeing. Altos de Chavón is a re-creation of a Mediterranean style European village located in Dominican Republic. The project was conceived by the Italian architect Roberto Copa.
Beautiful! This church you see here is where Michael Jackson married Lisa Marie Presley. The Chavon river is the one you see here also the amphitheater is located here with many other attractions including an amber museum and a hammock sewing factory amongst many other wonderful and interesting stuff. A must see place while in la Romana.
Very pretty small town. According to our waiter, the town is only 41 years old. It looks old.. you have to wear comfortable shoes to walk around. Nice restaurants and cafe.
