Picton Castle (Welsh: Castell Pictwn) is a medieval castle near Haverfordwest in the community of Uzmaston, Boulston and Slebech, Pembrokeshire, Wales. Originally built at the end of the 13th century by a Flemish knight, it later came into the hands of Sir John Wogan. The Castle and estate is now run by the Picton Castle Trust, a registered charity, and is no longer occupied by Wogan's descendants, the Philipps family (see Baron Milford and Viscount St Davids). It is of unusual construction and has been remodelled several times during its history. It is a Grade I listed building.
Until the late eleventh century, this part of southwestern Wales was part of the Welsh kingdom of Deheubarth. After the death in 1093 of the king of Deheubarth, Rhys ap Tewdwr, in the Battle of Brecon, the Normans took advantage of the lack of leadership among the Welsh, and Norman forces seized much of South Wales. In 1102, following a failed revolt by many of these Normans against King Henry I of England (in favour of Henry's brother, Robert Curthose), the King re-organised the wider region surrounding the Daugleddau Estuary and Milford Haven, including the Penfro peninsula, as a single Marcher Lordship of Pembroke.

Really lovely place to spend the day. More of a country house than a castle, you can get a tour of the house by a volunteer for an extra cost and there's some really stunning rooms but its quite rushed and you can't go in mist of the rooms. Secret Owl Garden is fantastic, really lovely knowledgeable staff and you get to wear a glove and fly one of the owls. Cafe shut in the winter so bring lunch, they only have coffee and biscuits!

Beautiful castle and gardens but be aware separate charge for each and additional charge for the new secret owl garden (though good value overall). Beautiful walks, plenty for kids to do including the 'boardwalk' maze, and bouldering wall. Walled garden with pond is beautiful. Newly opened secret owl garden is great for all the family - meet the huge range of owls and if you time it right you may get to hold one. Spanish style rustic cafe serves delicious food (snacks and full meals), gift shop, and a quirky vintage lawnmower collection!

This wonderful castle stands within beautiful grounds; that vary from woodlands to exotic walled gardens. The castle recently become home to a number of owls and they have frequent showings of the owls and the possibility for group events. The guided tours of the castle are interesting and informative. The best time to visit, and to get the most out of your time here, is in a sunny day.

Very welcoming, dogs were offered a biscuit on arrival! Only slight improvement would be food offerings in the cafe - an alternative to Tapas would be good. The secret owl garden even offers a doggie sitting service while you look round.

Love this place. The walled garden is wonderful and Maria's Cafe is superb.

Nice afternoon out. Really enjoyed the owls. Juggling the dog with the tour times was a little difficult; you have to book in arrival and they are fairly inflexible with tour numbers and the difference between a age 14 'child' and age 17 adult.

Enjoyed a lovely day out with the family here in may half term. We didn't go round the house as we had young children and didn't think they would be up for it. Nevertheless the owl garden is outstanding. A truly beautiful setting and an amazing collection of owls with very knowledgeable staff. Kids particularly enjoyed the board walks and play areas. Also highly recommend Maria's cafe. Food was very tasty..even the kids ate well!

The tour of the Castle itself is quite thorough and very interesting, and the expansive gardens, in particular the walled garden with its many exotic species is impressive. There is also a maze, a children's playground, an excellent Spanish cafe, an art showroom, a separate section of the gardens with owls in it, easily an entire afternoon's worth of exploring especially for those who like plants. Toilets abound. The conservation effort have done a good job, and entry fees are a good value. Recommended.

The owl secret garden is fantastic. Gardens are beautiful. Did not visit the castle as it was closed. Recommend eating at Maria's. Good welsh /spanish homemade fusion food. Sounds a bit bizarre but it works

We really enjoyed the house and gardens, we went on a tour of the house and the guide was very knowledgeable about the history of the house and had lots of interesting facts. I'd recommend this to everyone

An interesting place to visit. The castle is a mix of old and new, as it was recently still live in, and features many interesting objects and things to see. There is only guided tours so set aside about an hour for the castle. The guide was knowledgeable and interesting and presented the history and features of the place very well. As our party was quite small (less than twenty) we also got to go to some of the smaller areas such as the balcony. There are large gardens, some tended and some more wild, to wander around including raised planking walkways for exploring. The cafe serves Spanish food and drink with generous portions served efficiently and in a friendly, welcoming way. There are also gist shops and a gallery and a lawnmower museum - you could spend quite a bit of time here.

Wonderful place to spend a day. Vist owls and walk around the gardens and take in all the amazing plants. And the house walk around is really good and interesting. Just a note tho you do have to pay extra to see the owls. Think it's something like £4 each but I don't have a problem with this extra fee. They have to look after the owls. I have never been in to the food court, always seemed a bit pricey so o aways take a packed lunch. They also have a lawn mower museum. That is quirky and fun.

Hidden gem of a garden owl experience was fun and staff very helpful. Cafe not suitable for young fussy kids. Take a picnic and enjoy the surroundings . Walled garden and woodland walk were enjoyable. Kids enjoyed fairy door walk.
