The Church of Saint Lazarus (Greek: Ιερός Ναός Αγίου Λαζάρου, Ierós Naós Agíou Lazárou), is a late-9th century church in Larnaca, Cyprus. It belongs to the Church of Cyprus, an autocephalous Greek Orthodox Church.
The Church of Saint Lazarus is named for New Testament figure Lazarus of Bethany, the subject of a miracle recounted in the Gospel of John, in which Jesus raises him from the dead. According to Orthodox tradition, sometime after the Resurrection of Christ, Lazarus was forced to flee Judea because of rumoured plots on his life and came to Cyprus. There he was appointed by Paul and Barnabas as the first Bishop of Kition (present-day Larnaca). He is said to have lived for thirty more years and on his death was buried there for the second and last time. The Church of Agios Lazaros was built over the reputed (second) tomb of Lazarus.

As far as churches go this is a lovely one to visit. It's beautiful and old and has an intriguing story.

A very ironic iconic place. A church built in memory of a man who first time around couldn't stay in his grave and second time around was taken from his rest. Well kept and with little compromise to the quirks of tourism. Loved it.

Worth a visit. There is a museum nearby (one euro per person). Make sure you visit the tomb. No shorts (men and women) and women should cover their hair.

I love to see these beautiful ancient buildings, loved and cared for, in the middle of a thriving and busy city. There was a church service on, and though people were walking in and out and generally milling about inside, I thought it a bit inappropriate to be doing the touristy thing during their apparent solemnity 😕 Other than that the architecture and history are stunning 😀

Really old church. Impressive given it's age. There are some tombs nearby and a crypt. Worth a visit particularly if you like Iconoclast art work.

A must visit if you're in Larnaca. This church is very important to the region historically, it's beautiful on the inside and the outside. When you go in make sure you go down to st Lazarus tomb, it's down the stairs on your right when you're facing the front of the Church.

Majestic city building from outside. Very impressive inside (wear appropriate dressing). Closed in the mittle of the day.

Very beautiful and full of gold. If you want to see Byzantic architecture example, so here is it. Also do not forget legend about Lazar, who is patron of Larnaka: he died and woke up, when Jesus called him near the grave. Inside the church there are lots of icons and my favourite is St. George with the dragon.

Stunning gold friezes & artworks (icons) and loads of them. Also, oddly for a church renowned for its artwork, also some very impressive brickwork in vaulted ceilings. Small church, but well worth a visit

Very nice place to visit, during your stay at Larnaca. There is a catacombs under the church, with holly water. And interesting artefacts in the museum. Also souvenir shops next to it.

The church has a really nice architecture. I love the golden plates inside. They even provide you with red cloth in order to cover if you're wearing shorts

Church surrounded by cafes and bars. It is a great backdrop whilst eating lunch without getting ripped off. (If this is useful please give me thumbs up 👍)

Beautiful architecture. Feels like your walking in history. Read up about its past and it will make you appreciate it more. There is also the tomb of Saint Lazarus downstairs with a tap coming out to the wall, which I believe is holy water. On both sides of the church there are shops that sell religious items, such as icons, bracelets and crusifix's. The one of the right of the front of the church belongs to the church iteself.
