The Leeds Industrial Museum at Armley Mills is a museum of industrial heritage located in Armley, near Leeds, in West Yorkshire, Northern England. The museum includes collections of textile machinery, railway equipment and heavy engineering amongst others.
The Grade II* listed building housing the museum was once the world's largest woollen mill. The current structures were built in 1805 by Benjamin Gott and closed as a commercial mill in 1969. They were taken over by Leeds City Council and reopened as a museum of industrial heritage in 1982. It is located between the Leeds and Liverpool Canal and the River Aire and accessed from Canal Road or Milford Place. It is part of Leeds Museums & Galleries, which also includes Leeds Art Gallery, Leeds City Museum, Leeds Discovery Centre, Thwaite Mills, Lotherton Hall, Temple Newsam, Abbey House Museum and Kirkstall Abbey.
We thought we would just call in this museum for a quick look, how wrong we were. This place is fascinating, we spent almost three hours here. The displays are very informative and the staff so helpful. The reception staff made us feel very welcome and seemed genuinely proud of their museum. The gentleman who did the spinning machine demonstration clearly new his subject and was happy to talk to us afterwards. I also enjoyed the queens of industry temporary exhibition. I highly recommend a visit.

Really great museum that I've been meaning to visit for years but never actually got around to it, my loss! A fantastic insight into local industry from the past with a focus on the textile boom that made the area a powerhouse. Nicely presented displays, some great demos and a real exploration opportunity due to the size of the place. The colour garden (dyes) and cinema were unexpected treats.

Great place. Really makes you think about what mill work was like but also what an influence it was on the growth of Leeds. Slightly odd departure, where the last door locks behind you and you then have to guess your way through about 500yds of footways back to entrance...get some better signing!

Absolutely mind blowing textile machinery on display - seeing the Spinning Mule in action was a huge treat! Our tour guide was super friendly and incredibly knowledgeable. We will be back!

Really surprised how good this place is. I've been 50m away so many times and not realised! Amazing stuff to learn, there is something for everyone. Even Disney films in the cinema for kids if needed!

Great value for money. We really enjoyed the tour and the rest of the exhibits. There was even a free children's movie. Would recommend.

Very interesting . Worth a visit. Reasonably priced entry fee. On the down side shame there were no actual working displays or machinery showing how things were done

A very well thought out and presented exhibition of wool manufacturing. I will certainly go back again.

Somewhat disappointing. Nothing but weaving and the clothing trade. Every other industry is ignored. The lower level with engines in it has no labelling so you have no idea what they are.
