Found it while strolling around the centre on my way to the Santo Domingo mercado nearby; it’s such a gem! Entry is 5 soles for students and 10 for adults, it’s a beautiful but small convent inside after the church. Worth the visit if already in the area!
A brilliant preserved cross section of Catholicism and economic dominance of Peru. Beautiful rooms and displays. The cloisters are stunning so it’s nice to sit back and relax, enjoying the beautiful gardens. Amazing tile mosaics line the walls outside and ornate gold and timber line this inside
Tranquil, interesting, well kept.
We stumbled onto this place by accident and we're glad we did! It's HUGE! Gives us a perspective of the money the Spanish spent on spreading Christianity in those days (Spanish conquered only for that reason unlike other imperialist empires). Some interesting features were the crypts, huge cathedral, and a very old library.
Beautiful cloisters and convent started in 1551. Tombs of Saint Martin de Porres 1579-1639 and Saint Rose of Lima 1586-1617.
Honestly the Church would have been better off not advertising a wedding fair on the cathedral. It felt a bit "Jesus chases out the money changers from the Temple". Beautiful building but the ads were in bas taste
Santa Rosa of Lima very nice statue by a Maltese sculptor Melchior Gafa' 1665
