The Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation (Portuguese: Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian), commonly referred to simply as the Gulbenkian Foundation, is a Portuguese institution dedicated to the promotion of the arts, philanthropy, science, and education. One of the wealthiest charitable foundations in the world, the Gulbenkian Foundation was founded on 18 July 1956 according to the last will and testament of Calouste Sarkis Gulbenkian, a Portugal-based oil magnate who bequeathed his assets to the country in the form of a foundation.
Gulbenkian the Armenian oil magnate had one of the largest private art collections in Europe, which is housed in the foundation's Calouste Gulbenkian Museum in Lisbon. The foundation hosts numerous institutions and initiatives including the Gulbenkian Orchestra, Gulbenkian Science Institute, Gulbenkian Prizes and the Gulbenkian Commission.
Probably one of the most beautiful and exquisite museums I've ever seen. The connoisseur eye of Mr. Gulbenkian assembled an impressive collection of artifacts ranging from antique Egyptian statues to 19th century paintings and sculptures. By far, it has the most brilliant collection of antique coins.

A must visit for a small entry fee. Filled with awesome beautiful historical treasures from many parts of the world. Furniture, pottery, paintings, glassware, crafts and delicate artwork. Be prepared to spend at least half a day browsing the galleries. Finish off at the cosy restaurant with some nice food. 😊

An excellent place for art lovers. It has a wide and versatile collection of art in various forms. It's a must visit for people who like art and museums. Entry fee to the museum is 10 euros. However, it has free entry every Sunday after 14:00.

An unexpectedly stunning museum. The collection of objects is not the largest but there are exquisite items in it to rival the best in the Louvre, British Museum or Forbidden City. Well worth a visit.

Very interesting visit but spread out over multiple buildings and exits are hard to locate at times. Loved the old paintings.

This is a great museum: The permanent collection is engaging and charming, the temporary exhibits are usually beautifully curated. Not to mention all the work they do with music! Plus we've recently gotten involved with their workshops for kids. Again, the highest quality--the kids learned a lot and had SO much fun. And last but not least, the gardens are fantastic...

Outstanding museum. So far the high point of my trip to Portugal. Plus the museum restaurant serves outstanding food.

A real treasure in Lisbon. Absolutely stunning collections in this world-class institution. Great architecture and the gardens are not to be missed as well.

The museum was really nice so inside as outside. Very nice architecture with the garden and cute mews. When it is comes to the collection of art peaces , really large and from all around the world ...

Loved the amazingly beautiful garden area and the brutalist architecture, both together create an interesting contrast. The art collection / exhibition bored me a bit, seen better ones, but all in all its definitely worth a visit.

If you just bought an online ticket for a concert or a show in the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation website and if you happen to passe by, even if days before the show, you can very easily get it printed. All you have to do is to go to the main building and at the front desk, near the gift shop, ask to get your ticket printed. To facilitate and speed things up please have the number, that is in the topic of the confirmation email, ready. Every time I do this i don't spend more than 5-7 minutes. Hope it helps.

Museum complex comprises two buildings and a park. One with modern art and the other is the traditional museum. There are several cafes, but I wasn't able to connect to WiFi. Toilets are free, and everything is perfectly organized. Park is beautiful, and locals come here to spend time after the work. It's a great place to bring children too.

Beautiful gallery with huge variety of art. Very nice and structured. It was not crowded at all. There is reduced entry for students. Definitely take a walk through the park around the building, it's very peaceful and helps to process all the impressions. Watch out not to step into duck poop!

Not very often an aestete with means gathers a fabulous collection and decides to share it with mankind. What this museum houses is quite unique, and I love the fact crafts are side by side with art, receiving attention. I only had time to see the founder's collection but I'll go to see the modern one in my next visit to Lisbon. I loved the building too and there's a park to relax and enjoy before or after your visit.

Loved the modern art museum. Thought inspiring.Could have spent more time here! The surrounding gardens are awesome with park benches tucked away in private little nooks of the garden. The garden sculptures were different!

A good way to spend half a day. Price was reasonable. Exhibits very interesting. Easy to get to from subway. Food looked good at fair prices. Beautiful gardens and park.

One of the great museums of the world and the compelling reason to visit Lisbon. Yes it is much smaller than the others in the world top 10, but the average quality of the works is much higher. This man only bought the best. The room devoted to Lalique by itself is worth the trip.
