I was on the fence about visiting this museum based on the reviews I'd read about it which were very mixed. But decided to because my husband really wanted to go. In retrospect I was really happy we went! The museum itself is in this huge complex and was much larger and better organized than we'd anticipated. One thing I really loved about it was that artwork was organized chronologically into interesting collections with contextual information included in each gallery. It was the perfect way to display these works for someone who's interested in learning more about the history of modern art and the various sub-movements by country. Others have complained that many of the works are lesser known works by major artists...but for me I found that aspect enlightening. We've visited a lot of art museums around the world and viewed many artists major works. But viewing their lesser known works was, I felt, really educational. I left with a better appreciation of several artists I thought previously I'd known enough about. I was also really impressed with their sections of Portuguese artists and the entire floor dedicated to Brazilian artwork. That floor alone was really amazing! Both the exhibit space and the artwork included were wonderful. If you love modern art this museum is well worth your time to visit!

This is an impressive building just across from the Tagus river with an extraordinary collection of contemporary art. Due to the vastness of the interior space, each piece can be enjoyed from the distance it should be, especially the larger works and sculptures. The grounds are also impressive. Not sure if all Saturdays are free, but when we went, it was. Check in advance. The life of this incredible man from humble beginnings is also extraordinary. Lots of fun things to do in the area. We spent about 2 hours inside.

A very beautiful art museum - inside and outside. The upstairs collection is really very impressive - a tour de force of twentieth century art from Picasso to Warhol. As this is a permanent exhibit I fear that it could limit the possibilities of the exhibits. However, the downstairs galleries have plenty of space and had at least two interesting exhibits at the time of my visit - one of which.was of photography, so often overlooked by "art museums". Worth a visit.

Impressive museum with a very comprehensive collection of modern and contemporary art. Also features interesting installations and special exhibitions. There are lots of explanations (also in English) about each of the art groups and movements. And the most cheerful cloak person seems to work here... :-)

Sure, there are masses of paintings by great artists here, but not their best paintings and they don't hang together very well. I get the feeling that the collector bought these paintings so that he could add another tick to his list. Quite disappointing.

Fabulous. My favorite gallery in Lisbon. Quite a lot of contemporary Photography which I appreciate. Really good collection of 20th century art. Loved it.

It is a nice museum to explore on a rainy day in Lisbon. It is quite big and not to expensive. There is a nice view from the garden too with some sculptures in it. It is very spacious and light, and well divided in to areas. I was there on a Sunday and there as a market on the courtyard. I don’t know if it is there every day.

I love modern art so I jumped at the chance to visit Museu Colecao Berardo. The galleries are beautiful and hold some of the greatest works of art from the last 150 years or so. Great atmosphere, friendly staff, beautiful setting. If you're in Lisbon, I strongly recommend you visit.

We saw a number of incredible exhibits, and the best part was it was free on the Saturday when we visited. There were mobs of people visiting the monestary across the street, but the museum was much less busy. Highly recommended.

It was an amazing collection of modern and contemporary art with all the famous painters. The exhibit I liked the most was called "no place like Home.

Very large, spacious, modern building with an extensive modern and contemporary art collection containing a large number of Portuguese works. Housing a mix of sculptures, paintings, and some audiovisual pieces, the gallery puts on show a robust collection spanning the last almost 200 years. There aren't many "must-see" pieces or really famous works here, but the exhibitions are worth seeing, if only for a quick run-through of the museum. Perhaps the greatest strength of this museum is that exhibitions are displayed first by time period, and then by movement or style, and are shown (with placards in both Portuguese and English) in such a way that it is easy for visitors to engage with the works and learn about the different movements (a particular help for those uninitiated with modern art). Prices are reasonable at €7, with a 50% discount for students. Free on Saturdays.

Great museum especially of you're interested in your modern art. A couple of hours is more than enough time to visit all of the rooms.

Nice spaces with a decent cross section of modern art. Nothing too cutting edge or experimental but always worth a visit when I’m in Lisbon.
