Beautiful landmark statue and very important in Lisbon for historic reasons. It was made in the memory of a famous Portuguese naval man. The carving and the details in the human figures on the structure is stunning. Built right on the bank of the river Tagus, it is directly visible from the Belem Tower and is just 10 minutes by walk from it. This stretch of the river bank is always full of people due to the two landmark tourist spots. A must visit without a doubt. The city tour buses have a bus-stop at this point too.

Stone carved sculptures, representing Portuguese navigators from the XV century, make the outside profile of this well known monument in Lisbon. In the inside you will learn some of the Portuguese history. On the roof top there is a great sightseeing place. On the ground floor pavement, made with limestone, you can appreciate some places discovered by Portuguese sailors.

Absolutely fantastic place in the heart of Belem district! Monument is huge and very interesting - please don't forget to watch your steps! Because you can miss big mosaic/tessellation showing map of Portugesse geographical discoveries!

Made for a nice picture to show to an old history teacher of mine. We didn't go to the top because of the rain but I imagine the view is pretty nice. The only problem is that there's not much going on apart from the thing itself.

A very large monument indeed - worth of any major Sovjet city. In fact the style of the monument reminds me of monuments I've seen in the old eastern block. I wonder, though, if the monument does look best from the river - the whole thing is slanted towards the river and protrude the pier, making it impossible to see it from the front. A few signs to guide the uninitiated about which explorers and seafarers one is looking at would be good too. I didn't go up to the observation deck, but I'm sure it's a beautiful view - which is true of most of Lisbon.

Interesting to see for what it represents, but far too pricey to just use an elevator. Views are good, but in Lisbon you get too many top views for free!

Worth visiting place in Lisbon. As we know Portuguese are famous for discovery - this place resembles it. Famous for its history - this place is peaceful n it's nearest to Belem tower n architecture museum along with monastery. You can cover all four together in a single place. Enjoy :-)

Interesting monument. Didn’t really except much but was fun walking around the area and climbing up to take some photos. If you’re around in town, then definitely pay a visit anyway. Worth the walk along the sea :)

Epic statue with some great carvings in, if you can, get close and just look at all the details. Quite a few singers and market sellers around who actually sell nice souvenirs you're interested. Also a great place to experience and learn more about Portuguese History.

Great view. The entry price is around 4 euro, with Lisabon card only 3.5 Euro and the waiting time is not that big. There is an elevator taking you to the top and that allows like 8 persons at once. Sadly there is no wheelchair support as far as i can tell as the elevator goes only up to floor 6 and the panoramic point is at floor 8. You would need to climb 2 floors.. 4x10 steps. But the view is splendid. On a sunny day it looks like San Francisco. The 25th April bridge on a side, the yacht parking lot under your nose, the Belem tower afar..very nice. Not even that windy on top...not that feeling that a gust of wind will blow of your phone. Sad part..kinda...the toilets are under capacity I think. Guys toilet were represented by only a toilet and a small sink. Hm... Still...totally worth seeing I would say

It was a nice view overlooking the water and the square below. The elevator up was way overpriced and the gallery/museum below wasn't all that interesting to me. The actual monument itself is very cool and I would recommend seeing it, but I wouldn't bother with the ride up unless you really want to .

Nice monument. Beautiful from the outside. We did not get inside as there was a big line. The monument and the surrounding are worth visiting. The monument is majestic.

It has always been a dream of mine to visit this stunning memorial to the great Portuguese explorers. This year I had the wonderful opportunity to pay homage to the monument and the explorers enshrined in it. It certainly doesn't hurt that the world famous Belem Pastry shop is only a few blocks away and I could also indulge in some incredible Portuguese custards!!

Such a wonderful place. Amazing workmanship and well worth a visit. So much to see all around and also close to the Belem tower, the monastery and National museum. I would suggest getting a pass for the excellent bus service available in Lisbon, very cheap and can take you to more of the sights in this wonderful city.

A great monument with excellent relief work on both sides. It is possible to go to the top at a few. Ample parking across the road. Just be aware that the so-called car guards demanding a parking fee are not official and should not be paid. You are also in walking distance of the delicious Belem Pastais and the famous Belem tower. Skip the very long que outside the Belem Pastais and go inside where there are seating for more than 400 people.

If you’re going up there for the view, then go ahead. Much better than the Tower of Belem but nothing much apart from that. I recommend you get the Lisboa card, and you’ll be able to get in free.
