We home school two primary age boys and found the Deva museum / Roman excavations / learning experience excellent. The staff were wonderful helping us as we needed - one of our boys was worried about entering in the lowered light and the receptionist came out and gently showed him around - excellent! ! The displays / Hands on / discriptions and talks provide a factual and interactive experience which provides an excellent and full foundation training.

Had a great time went with my son's school,we had the tour guide who was dressed in full Roman legionnaire uniform (beared one sry forgot his name) he was great well worth paying the extra. The kids loved it, so did the adults. It's a real eye opener to know how much history is just under your feet.

I went in July as a parental helper with my daughter's year 3 group. I cannot rate this place highly enough. We marched through Chester city to the amphitheatre like Roman soldiers with our wonderful guide who kept the children in check. He was fun, and very well informed on all things Roman. After a battle to the death between 2 teachers were returned to the centre. After lunch we were treated to a horrible histories style experience of Roman life. What 8 year old doesn't enjoy hearing that Doctors would smell and drink urine to diagnose illnesses!! With an excavation site on the premises too, this place is well worth a visit. The children, and adults, had a fab time!!

Great day out for adults and children. I have also led a school trip here and the staff were really helpful.

To be honest, we only went in to pass some time in the bitter cold on a 3 hour visit to Chester! It was interesting to see a little about Roman Chester, and particularly the map showing old Roman roads. I was a little disappointed at the shortness of the video though.

The museum is quite small, but interesting and child-friendly. The Roman soldier tours for kids are excellent, reasonably priced, and can be purchased separately from the museum entrance fee. Good for families and school groups.
