The Ljubljana Botanical Garden (Slovene: Ljubljanski botanični vrt), officially the University of Ljubljana Botanical Garden (Botanični vrt Univerze v Ljubljani), is the central Slovenian botanical garden, the oldest botanical garden in Southeastern Europe, and one of the oldest cultural, scientific, and educational organisations in Slovenia. Its headquarters are located in the Rudnik District of Ljubljana, the Slovenian capital, at Ig Street (Ižanska cesta) along the Gruber Canal to the southeast of Castle Hill. The garden started operating under the leadership of Franc Hladnik in 1810, when Ljubljana was the capital of the Illyrian Provinces. It is thus an averagely old European botanical garden. The institution is a member of the international network Botanic Gardens Conservation International and cooperates with more than 270 botanical gardens all across the world. Of over 4,500 plant species and subspecies that grow on 2 hectares (4.9 acres), roughly a third is endemic to Slovenia, whereas the rest originate from other European places and other continents.

Small but cute. Has very nice tea cocktails and is perfect to escape the heat in the summer. November through March closes at 5pm and April through October at 7pm. This place offers various events and workshops. It has a public restroom. You can also buy poted plants here.

Interesting plants, not a big place. Free entrance. We got into the glass house which cost 3 Euro per person. Also small, not sure it's worth it unless you really love plants.

Tucked away from hustle and bustle of city center but still close to it. It's perfect for strolling around and enjoying it's shade on hot summer day. There is also a lovely tea house. We just love it.

A lovely little botanical garden not far from the city center. They have a variety of local and exotic flora, some purchaseable items as well. In the middle of the garden there's a green house with plants from tropical regions of the world. A lovely stroll to calm and excite your senses at the same time. :)

Peaceful and colorful place to be in, especially in the spring. There is a hidden cafe where you can enjoy a naturally made drink.

Me and my girlfriend went here, the price is great when you want a cheaper day and we saw turtles in the pond outside which were amazing. The gardens are great too!

Interesting place for a day visit with oportunity to see tropic plants in the midle of Ljubljana. Also a place to buy plants - tropic and local types. Park sourounding the tropic garden, is a great place for relaxing and also suitable for children. Small pounds full with fishes and some ducks swimming around can be pretty amusing.
