The Museum of London documents the history of the UK's capital city from prehistoric to modern times. It is located in the City of London on the London Wall, close to the Barbican Centre and is part of the Barbican complex of buildings created in the 1960s and 1970s to redevelop a bomb-damaged area of the city. The museum is the largest urban history collection in the world, with more than six million objects.
The museum is a few minutes' walk north of St Paul's Cathedral, overlooking the remains of the Roman city wall and on the edge of the oldest part of London, now its main financial district. It is primarily concerned with the social history of London and its inhabitants throughout time. The museum is jointly controlled and funded by the City of London Corporation and the Greater London Authority.

This is really interesting and mandatory place for visiting. If you come on time you can pop up into guided tour. We’ve been on Plague, War, Big Fire topic. You can take a chair for the convenient perception of historical events :) Really friendly and smart guide. Afterword you can go to the old city with different buildings and take a descriptive map about them. Prepare to spend there almost whole day. And the most important fact - it’s free :) You can leave some donation at the end of your visit. Highly recommended.

What an amazing museum!! And the best bit... IT’S FREE!! I’ve walked past it so many times and always said I would go in and this time I did. It gives an incredible account of London from the beginning to the present day, brilliantly illustrated, wonderful displays, very interactive and perfect for kids and school trips. The 2012 London Olympic area was my favourite! This is why I love London!!! Brilliant day out 👍🏻❤️

What a wonderful place. Free admission, yet you can always donate. It features the history of London from the ancient times till nowadays. Spend some time exploring, there’re curious things. There are also some quizzes and films along the way. I don’t know why there are so many coins of different ages present. Sometimes they invite people to speak on some related topic. Check the schedule online. The best part was the Olympics installation, it got me. I literally had goose bumps. No more words, just come and take a look yourself. There’s also a gift shop with London-related gifts, could be a good alternative to mass market goods. This museum also features a coffee shop and kind of snacks bar inside.

Excellent displays on London through the ages. Well presented and well ordered. It includes information and activities that are for all ages, so very good for families - it also provided a brilliant (child friendly!) section on the Great Fire of London, which will prove very useful for that project at school next term. Hopefully!

Really interesting & imaginative displays. Lots of interaction for kids....and adults! I personally loved the Victorian shopping street and the post-war fashion displays. My partner loved the Roman exhibits...so, something for everyone! Great coffee in the cafe too!
