Reigate ( RY-gate) is a town in Surrey, England, around 19Â mi (31Â km) south of central London. The settlement is recorded in Domesday Book in 1086 as Cherchefelle and first appears with its modern name in the 1190s. The earliest archaeological evidence for human activity is from the Paleolithic and Neolithic, and during the Roman period, tile making took place to the north east of the modern centre.
A motte-and-bailey castle was erected in Reigate in the late 11th or early 12th century. It was originally constructed of timber, but the curtain walls were rebuilt in stone about a century later. In the first half of the 13th century, an Augustinian priory was founded to the south of the modern town centre. The priory was closed during the Reformation and was rebuilt as a private residence for William Howard, the 1st Baron Howard of Effingham. The castle was abandoned around the same time and fell into disrepair.
Pleasant enough stroll however it seems in Surrey walking around parks is an extreme sport - Priory does appear to have paths up the hill and through the wood that are enticing, or would be if they had a reasonable surface - the mud necessitates wellies so you end up walking along go round the lake and back the way you came. It's pleasant enough, the wildlife is remarkably tame and there's lots of space for the bairns to run around.

Fantastic park with Cafe, children's playground, tennis courts, skate park and walking tracks. A great place for picnics and look out for local events such as winter ice rink and various runs. Parking available at nearby council run car parks.

Had been a couple of years since we'd visited this park, wow what a change. This is now amazing for young children. Loads to do and our kids loved it.

Great big open space that is prefect for small or large gatherings. Big pond or small lake at one end with woods, hills and walking trails everywhere. Also has cafe, skate park, tennis and basketball facilities as well as a great play area for families and young children. Spent many a day here lazing around or being active. The choice is yours.

Lovely friendly staff and patrons. Four of us had Sunday Roast which was delicious with lots of fresh vegetables too. Desert order was wrong when it was bought to our table but this was easily rectified. All in all it was a relaxing way to spend a few hours catching up with family. It got busier as we were there but with plenty of seating and outside area too there was enough room for everyone. We would definitely recommend it.

Really good well kept open space. Cafe. Ice creams. Small water park. Children's play area. Parking limited but huge open green space with woods and loads of room for footy or picnics. Recommended.

Beautiful open space. Lovely play park with big pirate ship and splash pad. Skate park, tennis courts, ping pong table and football pitch. There is a big lake that you can walk around, which is full of wildlife. There is a forest at the back of the park with walks and opportunities to build dens. There is also a sunken garden with a pond. It is a great place to go. Also has a cafe and toilets.

Great, big park. Busy car park. Nice coffee shop, but bit pricey. Very often has a inflatable playground for children or fun fair. Great playground for children.

Lovely park consisting of woodland at the top and fields at the bottom. There are some small but interesting bike trails and a lake with many resident birds, there is a skate park, tennis and basketball courts. For younger kids there is a very well designed play park with water fountains and a pirate ship themed climbing frame. There is a car park and lots of floral plantings surrounding a fountain just outside the house.

Such a beautiful place and not just for a quick visit. It's a place to bring the family for a picnic and to just enjoy the wonderful grounds. The cafe is brilliant and the children's playground will keep the little ones amused for an endless time. Stunning.

Have visited many times and absolutely love it here. The children’s play area is fab. The only downside is there is now hardly anywhere to sit for adults that are visiting with there children on busy days xx
