The Holsten Gate (Low German and German: Holstentor) is a city gate marking off the western boundary of the old center of the Hanseatic city of Lübeck. Built in 1464, the Brick Gothic construction is one of the relics of Lübeck's medieval city fortifications and one of two remaining city gates, the other being the Citadel Gate ("Burgtor"). Known for its two-round towers and arched entrance, it is regarded today as a symbol of the city. Together with the old city centre (Altstadt) of Lübeck it has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987.

About your average museum. For me the most interesting feature was the mini model of the town with spots to highlight particular churches. Tells a bit about the mid (tbc) OBS: Lot of stairs!
Awesome guide into the history of the Hanseatic League
Nicely exhibited items. A little pricey for the experience
Interesting to see the building from inside. Not too many exhibits, so doesn't take too long, but it's a pleasant enough hour. And you learn a little more about the dodgy foundations...
It's nice little museum that you will while entering the old Lubeck city. The preserved antiques from medieval era gives you a peek in the history of trading in Europe via sea root. Nice one for one time!
Well preserved monument. A survivor landmark of German history
Museum in a historic building - very interesting
The museum is very small and only accessible in parts with a wheelchair so for people with reduced mobility it can get very strenuous quite fast. Definitely worth a visit though if you can make it, we got the best inside scoops on the city from the museum shop assistant. Amazing things you can definitely not find in a guide.
So beautiful.. like an entrance to a medieval town .. picturesque and haunting at the same time. Time stands still here and while passing through the gate you're transported to the glory and grandeur of a bygone era

Great staff..great displays
his is not just the old city gate you can visit, its a wonderful little museum and trip through Lübeck's history. After undergoing renovations a few years ago, the exhibits have been updated and are as entertaining as they are educational. From here you can get a nice photo spot of the historic City centre.
Ancient entrance to the city and the trademark of Lubeck. 7 Euros to get into the museum which has plenty of interesting exhibits with German and English text.
this old city because it wasnt important city in world war ll so it keep safe and has beautful and old nice building
A 'must see' when visiting Lübeck. It's hard to miss because it is the symbol of this beautiful city. Trivia An image of the Holstentor was used on the 50 Deutschmark bank note (old "3. Serie", used till 1994).
Nice to have seen and it's for sure a landmark but there is nothing much to see or explore beyond the first glimpse.
