The Chocolatería San Ginés is a café at Pasadizo de San Ginés, 5, in central Madrid, in a passageway close to San Ginés church, west of the Puerta del Sol. It has served principally chocolate con churros (hot chocolate and churros) since 1894. Coffee and cakes are also available.
The interior is decorated with mirrors and green wood panels, with green velvet seats and marble tables. The hot chocolate is served in Spanish style - thick, dark and strong - and the churros - deep fried batter, similar to a light, crispy, linear doughnut, cut to length by the staff - are served hot and freshly cooked, ready for dunking.

Very busy but fast service. Can’t say they were rude because they didn’t say anything to us when we ordered. All the staff had lively energy and looked pleasant though. Not sure they spoke English. You can sit down here but you order up at the cash as soon as you walk in. It’s a bit confusing because there’s no overhead menu to choose from and you feel rushed. The menu is a small piece of paper taped on the left side of the wall you walked by when you came in (not particularly close to the register) so ordering can be awkward. Also no need to order 2. The menu says “churros (1 order)” which prompts you to get 2 orders and this is WAY too much! 1 order is more than enough for two people to share. Was delicious though!

Quick service and great value for money 6 churros and a cup of hot choc for €4! Can share between 2 and possibly even with 3 people. A place to definitely visit whilst in Madrid.

Fast service. This place hasn't changed my mind about churros though. Chocolate tastes a like chocolate custard to me. 6 churros and hot choc for 4 euro which was great value.

Went twice and loved the experience. The service is straight to the point you order pay then sit ... Eat then leave. The churros are fantastic and the chocolate is just right . They have great coffee ♡ I recommend sitting outside

We came to this place to have some hot chocolate. If you like the thick hot chocolate that is sold in Madrid, this may be a good choice. Even though we were not fans (we prefer the more liquid variety), we still liked the taste OK, and the churros. The place was really crowded, but to their credit we got seats and got our food really fast.
