The Plaza de Oriente is a square in the historic center of Madrid, Spain. Rectangular in shape and monumental in character, it was designed in 1844 by Narciso Pascual y Colomer. The square was propagated by King Joseph I, who ordered the demolition of the medieval houses on the site.
It is located between some important landmarks in Madrid: To the west is the Royal Palace, the Teatro Real ("Royal Theater") to the east, and the Royal Monastery of the Incarnation to the north.
The gardens were beautiful, the people watching was fun. Nice place to sit after a long walk

Excellent designed Plaza, but the amount of dust flying around can be a high risk for your heath. Note: Not only here but in every park I visited in Madrid, Spaniards love to enrich the path ways in their parks with those fine sticky sands that in summer and the time of the year like this (I was in Madrid in October) will easily fly in the air and stick to your shoes and make your fashion trainers look garbage. Probably I could say this because I'm living in London where there are many parks around without his problems.

Reasonable gardens but not extensive. A good place to walk through rather than stay.

It is a very picturesque place of Madrid full of history. In one side it is the theatre of the opera and across the gardens you can find the Royal Palace. On the sides of the gardens, you can find the statues of the visigoths kings that reigned in the iberic peninsula. Also there are good cafes around and it is next to the Sabatini gardens. It is a place every person visiting Madrid should go.

A very nice place for something like this. A nice area, well kept and has a heart to the place. Conclusion: As far as these places go this is the best one I’ve been to in Spain (so far).

Beautiful place and surroundings, amazing place. Full of history and culture, amazing food near that place. Very easily accessible by metro. Highly recommend if u like to see the history of Spanish and Roman empire. There are many other attractive places around the corner. I am sure you will love it if u r in Madrid and wants to enjoy some free time.

Its on the way... This square is just outside the Royal palace. It has sculptures of Gothic kings in the small garden. There is kids' play area behind the gardens.
