The Market of San Miguel (Spanish: Mercado de San Miguel) is a covered market located in Madrid, Spain. Originally built in 1916, it was purchased by private investors in 2003 who renovated the iron structure and reopened it in 2009.
San Miguel Market is the most popular market in Madrid among tourists since it is located in the centre of Madrid, within walking distance from Plaza Mayor. The market is not a traditional grocery market but a gourmet tapas market, with over 30 different vendors selling a wide variety of freshly prepared tapas, hams, olives, baked goods and other foods. Beer, wine and champagne are also available.

Very cozy ! One of the best tour places and for locals as well. You can find everything from wine to fruits and sushi. It's really nice the way it works and everything is on a budget l. You can find a lot of people everyday . So the food is fresh in every place you go. You can sit down and enjoy your food or you can take it to go and go to the next place . Would recommend going with your family or friends it's a place you don't want to miss in Madrid. I enjoyed the experience of going and trying everything I can get my hands on . The churros was really good as well. Triple A recommendation .

Really nice place to be in a lot of great food but also a lot of people famous and popular places in Madrid I love the mango juice and every other thing to eat it's a must-watch when you visit Madrid. First time I was there I visited every day I stayed. Nice place for young and older people. Another pro is you don't have to speak Spanish to communicate with people because at other places it's practically impossible 2 communicate them in English.

Very nice small good market. Everything is fresh and good looking. There are a lot of options available, vegetables, meat, fish and beautiful olives. Good options for sweet as well, donuts etc. A lot of options to drink, beers, wine, sangria and cocktails. Worth visiting for a hour or two.

A place full of Spanish food. You can always find what you want to eat in this market. We have tried varieties of tapas and the one with seafood on it impressed me a lot ! That’s so delicious! I wanna have all kinds of that and the young man who made these was also friendly! You can find it in pic 3. And the yogurt ice cream was also worth eating! Don’t miss it! It’s really a suitable place for someone like trying different kinds of food!

Definitely worth a visit when you’re in Madrid, especially if you’re a foodie. Not as cheap as wine & tapas in a bar by any means, but a nice experience. Plenty of choice for food, and some nice wines available. Can get very busy. Go in, peruse the food counters, decide on your choices and purchase. Then find a bar and buy your beer or wine. Eat at a table (if you can find one) or at a shelf by the windows, or if it’s quiet just stroll around nibbling and drinking.

What a vibrant place! I so much enjoyed the gastronomic experience that offers this market. It is full of kiosks where you can enjoy different kind of Spanish food, even Chinese and Japanese cuisine as well. I personally liked the croquettes (stuffed with various ingredients: chicken, mushroom, cheese,..), the Spanish cheese, the seafood (oysters, crabs, sushi, etc...), the pies, and many many different authentic tapas varieties. And for the dessert, you will find many Spanish sweets' shops, and a colorful one for local and exotic fruits.

This place has it all. Iberica, meat in general, cheese galore, wine, various desserts and sangria of course. The hall is very large where all of the sellers sit but can become quite crowded quite quickly. This is especially true around lunch time and didn't seem to abate until late afternoon. The total trip here would be spending an hour or two just taking in the sights, sounds and smells. If you're hungry, every stall has something to offer and most vendors are fluent in Spanish and English. We mainly interacted in English. The only complaint is that this place is popular so can be VERY busy. That's good for the vendors but makes enjoyment a little difficult for customers.

In the heart if Madrid sits this unique and characteristic market. From it's outside architecture to the inside layout it attracts you and invites you to step it. It has everything from fresh produce, to meats to seafood. It can get too crowded and touristy at times, but it is a unique experience of Spanish culture that you must try during your visit to Madrid. The one thing I didn't like was the beggars by the entrance, they are a bit pushy and not befitting the place. The prices might be a bit high for some items, but if you are there for the experience then it becomes very much worth it and you will have a good time.

I love coming here every time I visit Madrid. Its always exciting with incredible energy. But you have to not be intimidated by crowds during peak tourist seasons. But there's nothing like a cold beer, or good wine along with tasty tapas when you've been wandering around Madrid.

A covered market dishing out local cuisine. I loved the market when I visited, but it can get quite packed making it hard to find a table. The food was great and such a good place to visit. They have a variety of foods to choose from with alcohol, desserts, and savory meals. A must visit while in Madrid.

Very vibrant and lively as it is full of crowd both locals and foreigners alike. Here you can sample many tapas of a great variety. I was recommended by locals to try the oyster which tasted very good. Also would like to comment that the oyster shop was conscientious as they threw away 2 oysters which were not good when they were preparing my oysters. Well such experience does make me feel great about this place. Food here can be a bit pricey compared to elsewhere which is understandable as this is right at the heart of touristy Madrid. However would still highly recommend you to visit this place for a truly Madrid experience.

Beautiful market. Very popular with tourists and also with locals. It is definitely on everyone´s list of must see places.Usually it gets very crowded and it gets busy fast. You can find almost everything form tapas, to Spanish plates, meat, cheese, wine and various sweets and desserts. In general I just prefer to walk around, seeing everything before deciding what to get but there are plenty of options to choose from. It is not one of my favourite markets from Madrid but it is somehow unique, beautiful and for me it is a symbol representing Madrid so I definitely recommend it.

Food (9/10): If there is one reason why you must visit this place, is simply food. It has a large variety of tapas and beers. It has something for just about everyone. Atmosphere (10/10): There are very few places in Spain like this one. Everyone is just happy to be there living the moment, the food, and the conversations. It is one of those places that you don't find any where else.

This place is absolutely full of small, excellent vendors of all kinds of food. The building is a historic structure that has been fitted out with glass panels. We only visited for a small period of time, I suggest you go there for lunch!

Definitely a must-see during your stay in Madrid! Amazing place for any kind of Spanish tapas you want. The building itself is beautiful and the interior is packed with small shops for different kinds of specialty tapas. It's a bit on the pricy side, but well worth the cost. A good meal for two plus a drink could be between 50-70 Euros total. I would advise to go to the market outside of normal Sapnish eating hours to ensure you get a seat. I prefer going around 4-6pm. Here's a pic of half of our last meal. Enjoy!

This place is totally amazing. It rained so we came here. I wasn't excited about it, but should have been. It's like a food court if they had all the best stuff. One guy has seafood, one has ham, one had produce. They all have tapas. So you go and get a glass of wine or a cocktail, or whatever and then you wander and snack. The best thing we ate was king crab and caviar over little french fries. Yes I like the fancy stuff, but there's regular stuff there too.

Loved it! It was great little Market that has some great and wonderful food shops. It's a bit pricey and made for tourist more than for local people as you can find the same things near by for fraction of the price! But the experience and the convenience of having all these little shops in one roof is nice to have. I'll leave you with the photos.

Awesome market in the heart of Madrid. Tons of different tapas throughout, everyone is bound to find something they’d enjoy! Also serving beer, wine and other drinks throughout as well. Made many stops here throughout our stay (we were staying close by) as there were so many different things we wanted to try. Incredibly reasonable prices from 1-5€!

I love this place. Very fun and friendly. It can be very busy and crowded on the weekends. Weekdays are better. The fruit stand is my favorite but then you must hit the Jamon( dried Ham) for a killer sandwich. The bread in Spain is the best. Tender inside and crusty outside. Make sure you save room for the desert bar. They have the best cookies and cake.

What a great experience. The building is beautiful and the atmosphere electric. Seating was a bit tricky, you just have to be very quick and ruthless :). When seated it's best to take turns to have a look at all the food stalls and choose what you want so you don't lose your place. The choice of food is good and in my opinion excellent value. I would really recommend it but getting seated between 2 and 3.30 is difficult. Enjoy

A great place for genuine Spanish delicacies of all kinds. Come her to enjoy good wines, beer, sangria, coffee or any other beverages for that matter. The stores also offer food specialties from great dishes to desserts, cakes. You can enjoy them there or bring quality goods home to prepare your meal there. The building is beautifully restored and glassed i . Definitely worth a visit......or two!

You can find just about any kind of food to suit your fancy here. It’s like a supermarket with ready to eat food of all types. The only complaint is that there are too few places to sit. I recommend ding your seats first, then take turns ordering your own food and drink or something to share. Say hello to those next to you or across from you. You’ll have fun!

Cool spot to see while visiting. There are some cheap shops in here to buy spices as well. Also a stand with kangaroo meat and ostrich meat if you want to try something different. And if your really brave there's a stand that sells bugs you can eat too. Also lots of pretty fruit stand if you want a smoothie or a nice photo
Monika Gyongyi Macias Honti | Jul 9, 2018
It is very nice. It is a market, but I think it's more like a lot of food stands (fancy ones) in a market place. The ambience is really cool and it can get crowded sometimes so just be patient and be mentally prepared to eat standing or outside of the market if you don't find any seats inside. Sometimes they give food samples so when you see one run and take it, taste everything if you can!
