Casa Botín).

We made a reservation in advance so they seated us right away. For a late lunch, the place was packed with people and tables. My husband got the suckling pig (24.80 euros) which according to him, was really delicious but a lot of meat. There's only 3 tiny potatoes to go with it and I though it could have been better balanced. I got the clams ( 24 euros) which were really fresh but way too salty. The bread goes really well with it but you'd have to pay additional per person.

This place is famous for being the oldest restaurant in the world. The inside layout and decor definitely shows this history, but in a good way. The food was good, although not amazing. It was quite crowded and is clearly a popular tourist attraction. If you are specifically interested in seeing this place because of its history then it is worth it. If you are looking for a great place for food, then there are better options.

About 80% of the customers were tourists, with some spending a long time taking photos - can’t blame them though coz it’s a nice historical house that clearly has history. The roast suckling pig was nice & tender, though my 2 companions felt that the one in Segovia was more tender. Loved the accompanying potatoes. The portion was a bit much for 1 person (the best would be to order 3 portions for 4 people). And for first timers, remember that there’s no sauce or condiments for the roast suckling pig, it’s just meat & salt (Asians & Americans who are used to sauces would find it “plain”). Skip the bread at 1.75€ per piece (not per basket of bread) as it was hard & cold. Sangria was good (might as well go all out on the touristy stuff!)

Friends said we had to visit this landmark restaurant. Very glad we did! We showed up on a Saturday night at 9pm with no reservations and the host found us a table (small quiet room on main floor - we later toured the restaurant at our waiter's encouragement and saw there were two upper floors and a basement - all very vibrant - would have preferred those but we were lucky to get seated at all). I had steak that was excellent and my wife had her first-ever roast suckling pig (she probably won't have it again but for one time only, this was the place to have it). Dinner for two with drinks was 85 euro - the cost/ quality compared to NYC restaurants is an incredible value. Highly recommend - great meal and you become part of history.
