Dukinfield Junction (grid reference SJ933984) is the name of the canal junction where the Peak Forest Canal, the Ashton Canal and the Huddersfield Narrow Canal meet near Ashton-under-Lyne, Greater Manchester, England. The area has been designated by Tameside Metropolitan Borough Council as a conservation area.
It is adjacent to Portland Basin, and the names are often used as synonyms by boaters, whilst locals refer only to Portland Basin. Strictly speaking, Portland Basin is the wide area on the main line of the canal. The arm under the junction bridge and the aqueduct over the River Tame were built by the Ashton Canal, and the junction with the Peak Forest canal was historically at the southern end of the aqueduct.

Went with family as a nostalgic trip. Used to visit with my dad over 10 years ago. The place hasn't changed much at all, which I couldn't quite figure out if it was a good or bad thing. Was nice seeing everything I remember plus a couple new exhibits. They used to do canal boat rises which I'm guessing are only in the summer. The cafe was nice and good prices for a very large cappuccino too. Pleasant and free day out really. Can't ask for more.

Excellent venue and staff. 'Streets ' of shops and past memorabilia. Excellent for children of all ages and family visits. Free crafting sessions dress up area and narrow boat trips. Also range of sewing machines from the treddle onwards. Wish we had found this gem sooner!! Can't wait to go again..even without children ☺

Perfect rainy day out. Decided to visit here on a whim and glad we did! Lovely museum that is actually interesting and informative. Took our 18 month old who was interested in a lot of the displays, as well as the hands on activities and cute play area. Stopped for a quick coffee which was at the top end of lattes, delish! Will definitely come again in nicer weather as the outdoor seating area for the cafe looked lovely, overlooking the canal and barges.

Great museum with a range of different parts. I particularly enjoyed the section that allowed you to walk through the interior sets of WW1 houses and shops.

A brilliant free day out for the children with educational value. beautiful scenery and by the canal with walk ways down the side. we spent most of the day here. the restaurant was closed on the day we visited so i couldn't comment on the food here but even without the food its a great day out with lots to see and do. there is even a little play area for the children if you have very young ones and an option to try on clothes.

An insight into Ashton-Under-Lyne. The History, Industry. A central hub for other town nearby..linking Tameside as a whole. A Great place to visit with attractions such as the Marina & food & drink places nearby..also local to amenities such as Ashton Town Centre..to explore rest of the town.

A good place for families, offering something for everyone. The trip boat Still Waters offers a 40 minute trip from the query side at weekends and school holiday. Highly recommend both.

Very interesting place, lots of information, but I'll go alone next time, 8 grandkids being chased all over the show. Must admit, the kids loved it as well
