Notre-Dame de la Garde (literally: Our Lady of the Guard) is a Catholic basilica in Marseille, France, and the city's best-known symbol. The site of a popular Assumption Day pilgrimage, it is the most visited site in Marseille. It was built on the foundations of an ancient fort at the highest natural point in Marseille, a 149 m (489 ft) limestone outcropping on the south side of the Old Port of Marseille.

Beautiful building with nice views of Marseille. It is very easy to get there by public transportation. Watch out for the schedule and the way to get back.
Beautiful building with a fantastic view of the city. There is a parking lot here, which usually stays empty. You can get here also by taking the bus from veiwport. Their are 2 main parts to the building, the crypt which is on the bottom offers a more re aren't place to be. The second is the upper part which is a high ceiling room filled with many details and decorations. Around the outside of the building you will find some of the best views of the city, and some excellent places to take photos. For the people who like the history of World War 2, their is a Sherman Tank at the bottom of the large staircase going down the mountain.
Very nice basilica from the Romanesque style. The view is just breathtaking from up there and you can overlook on the whole city ! This basilica is worth visiting if you are around. Made from beautiful (local) stones around 1200 ad.
The symbol of Marseilles, which is located on the highest point of the city. From there to the whole city and the coast offers a beautiful view.To the basilica you can get the tourist train, which starts its journey from the old port of Marseilles.
It was a beautiful place, especially the interior when it was lighted up. The colours are so vivid and bright. From its vantage point, a very good view of Marseille.
The view from Notre Dame de la Garde Church is stunning. The Church is the tallest point in the city and you can see forever or so it seems. Beautiful Church and a view you do not want to miss.
The church is beautifully decorated inside, so don't let the simple outside fool you. The view is amazing, and the terraces are big enough for all the turists. The access should be better.
It's a hike to get up there if you walk all the way like me, but the view of Marseille is well worth it. Beautiful basilica as well.
Very beautiful basilique!! It's got the plus that ypu can enjoy great overviews of the city. A must if you are in Marseille. There's parking at the top, however we came walking
An amazing Church with fantastic views over Marseille. If you walk there you will appreciate it even more.
Basilique Notre-Dame de la Garde, is absolutely beautiful, possibly one of the most beautiful churches I have seen and it would be difficult not to be impressed by this one! The roof is absolutely stunning and all the architecture a marvel of its time. Best part is its free to go inside and enjoy this space.
Beautiful church with breathtaking views of the city and the Mediterranean sea truly unforgettable. Do not try to walk here from the harbor, unless you are in great condition. The church is on top of a small mountain. 😎
Wonderful to visit but try not to go by walk. It is a very steep clime all the way up but the views are just fantastic. Inside the church is also beautiful. A must see if you are in Marseille.
The BEST 360o view of the whole city! Breathtaking view, breathtaking architecture inside and outside of the church ! Must-see places in Marseilles ;)
Beautiful church on top of the hill overlooking city and sea, nice climb up to the church. Church interior and exterior is amazing. Respect church goers by keeping quiet inside church, be discreet when taking photos. Enjoy the walk up and down the slopes, may be better idea to take public transport such as Uber, tram or coach to save the legwork. Enjoy the scenery.
Friendly staff. Very quaint atmosphere. If your hungry they serve plenty of food. Food quality is good prices are higher than the quality.
A must in Marseille since you have a wonderful view of the city. An amazing church worthy to visit. For catholics, it is interesting to plan to have a Mass there: on Sundays, there is a Mass each hour.
There are too many tourist but it’s worth going up there. You can drive up (there are parkings), take public transport or take a little tourist train up there. There is also an elevator which is pretty nice if you are going with elderlies. Totally recommend it.
Must see church. Great view of Marseille from the top. We caught the tourist trolley up. Better catch the local bus #80. Cheaper and no long line up( for tourist trolley) for return journey down
Beautiful basilica. Boats were blessed here and there are models hanging inside. Even a flying boat.
Lovely view and amazing architecture! I've been here 5-6 times but would definitely come back again when I get the chance.
