I am originally from Melbourne, so it most likely helps that growing up here i know some good places to eat in china town. Most china towns around the world are just tourist traps with a few hidden gems that only locals or well travelled tourist will know about. Melbourne's china town is not the most impressive looking, hence i deducted a star. However, i personally feel that a lot of the restaurants around here definitely are very tasty. Most of them are quite authentic.

Awesome. I go every time I'm in Melbourne. Fun stuff and is open late all around. The later it gets the more sketchy it becomes. It's awesome. Tons of Interesting food restaurants but I wish they had more street vendor's. Lots of Asian chicks to check out and drunken white girls to stumble on. Fun times had each time.

Great variety of shops and restaurants. Definitely worth it for the dumplings. They really are world class. I recommend Shandong Mama, but there are lots of other good locations as well. An easy walk if you're staying closer to the river.

Always busy but a great place to find exotic Asian food. Lots of yum cha joints, Japanese food, Korean BBQ and lots more. Chinatown stretches over two city blocks on Little Bourke St. The closest station is probably Melbourne Central. Sunday's are the busiest times.

Having been here a few times, I feel there could be improvements in signage as there are many side malls which makes it hard to navigate. I find myself just settling for whichever food court I'm in as I don't know what other options are around. The area is always clean which is a plus.

This area is buzzing with Asian food choices. Ate on the "Chinatown Strip" twice during Cristmas week. Incredible selection of Asian restaurants here. Did not do anything but eat here. Just look where there is either a line out the door or every table is packed and you probably found a good place to munch. Easy walk from Federation Square.

This Chinatown is must larger then Sydney's Chinatown. Large variety of different Asian cuisine from Thai to Japanese. Whatever your after you will find it here!

Chinatown Melbourne is a buzzing restaurant strip full of an amazing variety of Asian restaurants, including Chinese, Japanese, Cantonese, Thai and Korean, and most serving authentic Asian cuisine. I love the street decorations and the ambiance of the strip and have eaten here, many times at various restaurants over the years, including many Yum Cha Sundays. It busy on Sundays but well worth it.

I went there on Chinese new year, it's a lovely and vibrant place. It has many variety shops. I love learning about different cultures and this is a place to visit, if you want to experience a taste of China, without having to leave the country.

Chinatown all over the world usually carry with it a stigma of been dirty, with a ton of shady character around and restaurants with rude arrogant staff that doesn't speak English. But not in Melbourne, the streets are relatively clean (Ortho the streets ain't very wide) if you thinking about driving there, I suggest you find parking close then to park there. It's filled with chinese eatery, from your typical Chinese fair to fresh dumpling make right in front of you (there's always a line up at those places). I ate at a few restaurants in Chinatown and there standards are very high. Food tasted amazing, staff was knowledgeable and friendly. Restaurant was very clean. And best part, staff spoke English making the process of ordering way easy, and they even willing to explain what each dish is. Definitely a must visit in Melbourne.
