The Melbourne Star (previously Southern Star) is a 120 metre tall observation wheel in the Waterfront City precinct in the Docklands area of Melbourne, the state capital of Victoria, Australia.
Described by its operators as "the Southern Hemisphere's only giant observation wheel", it is 120Â m (394Â ft) tall and has seven spokes, reflecting the seven-pointed star of the Australian flag.
Great 100 million dollar views from this, the Southern Hemisphere's only Giant (120 m) Observation Wheel. In fact, it cost $100m to build and as as you can see from my photos here, the views from the floor-to-ceiling glazed wall passenger cabins are nothing short of spectacular. It's a comfortable ride in the air conditioned passenger cabins. All up, well it's well worth it. You'll get breathtaking views of Melbourne. If it's on offer, then you might also consider taking the go around again for an extra couple of dollars per person. We did!

Went there when it was very quiet and hardly a person around. After selling me a ticket I was turned away because I had a motorbike helmet with me. I can understand in peak period however there was hardly a person in site. There where some girls with handbags and they where aloud on yet someone carrying a helmet which was same size as bah was not aloud on. I left with a refund which may not worry them however word of mouth will. If I could give no stars I would as 1 star is too much.

A Melbourne icon and a fantastic place to see thhis beautiful city from a new perspective. The pods are climate controlled and the wheel turns so slowly that you barely feel it moving. Views are just phenomenal. Plenty of close parking and restaurants nearby for a fun day or night out.

Picked an awesome warm clear evening to visit..loved the views and city lights.. the slow relaxed pace of the ride. and excellent colorful lighting on the wheel itself. cool lego model at the gift shop too! Super friendly staff.

This place and ride was amazing. If someone visiting Melbourne for the first time i strongly recommend them to get on the wheel to have a 360 deg breathtaking view. Staff was very friendly and service was great. Thumbs up for the experience.

Was a great day we had staff that were amazing we went on it twice in 1 day. At sunset and during the night so we could see melbourne with all the lights on . The $2 upgrade for a second ride was great value . My girlfriend loved it even though she is scared of heights. Again staff where amazing right from buying the tickets untill boarding the carriage and even when getting off the carriage at the end. So thank you to all staff working you did an amazing job will come back again for sure .

Gorgeous views on a 30 minute ride in a car viewing the city. Interesting facts about Melbourne are told for much of the journey from top to bottom and the seats are very comfortable, the cabins quite spacious. Enjoyed this experience and would certainly recommend.

Was actually more fun than I expected. Voice over tour guide had interesting facts to match the views. Wish you could see more of the south east of Melbourne though

Bought tickets on grabone on the day. It takes 30 mins (wait time not included) we went during a weekday so there was no line. There's a commentary/voice over that explains what you're looking at in conjunction with the map provided. I'm scared of heights but felt very safe (still kept the kids away from the door though) Such a great experience. Would definitely go again.

Amazing views but the biggest credit goes to the staff. I would especially like to give praise to Rose and Elizabeth who made our visit smooth and helped us when we forgot our backpacks.

Magnificent night view of Melbourne city. Stunning and beautiful. Must see attraction if visiting Melbourne. Each Melbourne Star rotation takes approximately 30 minutes so you have heaps of time to see the view. It comes down to luck if it is a clear Melbourne night.

Been on the ride 4 times in the past 6 months after buying an annual pass — the staff here are always super friendly despite the repetitive nature of their jobs. The cafe prior to queuing into the wheel is surprisingly reasonably priced — good place to pick up a snack before you are stuck on the wheel for 45 minutes. Overall, if you’re in the area and a tourist to Melbourne, it’s worth checking out. Not sure if I would make the trip down to Docklands just for this though.

Great for the tourist to have a ride on. Much bigger than the Wheel of Brisbane. See all around Melbourne from the top. Great photo opportunities as well so make sure you have your camera. A must do while in Melbourne.

Little bit pricey but I think that everyone should go at least once, if not twice. I only say twice as I've been in the daylight and night and both were totally different experiences. Great fun spotting known landmarks during the day and beautifully glittering sea of lights at night.

An amazing experience of lifetime. Outstanding customer service. Sight from the very top is so relaxing. Will definitely visit again.
