A great place to spend the day with plenty of parking and reasonable admission prices. I was surprised how close you can get to the animals which look to be well cared for with big enclosures that emulate the animals natural habitat. Staff were friendly and knowledgeable. Highly recommended for locals and visitors.

I was thoroughly impressed with the Melbourne Zoo! Wow! The zoo has been extensively redeveloped over the years and it is simply stunning to see such incredible creatures up close and in very natural environments. We took our two year old toddler who just loved the Orangutans and the Butterfly House. The giraffes and elephants are simply amazing. There are nice cool forest environments to walk through and the animals are very well cared for. They all seem healthy and content. We were also pleased with the options available for lunch with a bakery, a pizzeria, and an Asian-style and Western-style cafe. Parking was not too expensive, with the fee being $2 for 5 hours. I cannot recommend this experience highly enough. I Loved!

We were there in earlier Feb and were so lucky the weather was cooling and windy! We reached there about 10am and managed to explore the whole zoo at about 3pm. I am in love with the zoo! It is designed in such a way that there are at least two different angles you can see the animals from. So if they are hiding, you may still see them at another angle of the same enclosure. The zoo is also alike to natural habitats with lots of trees and stoney grounds. This is unlike Singapore’s zoo, where there is more roads and paths. And the butterfly area where the butterflies fly freely, it is just amazing. Food is definitely expensive there but the chicken nuggets and chips were tasty. It was a fun day for us ;).

Wonderful place with many animal's, good place for kids entertainment, have shops to eat and drink from place to place. Kids will enjoy a lot. Highly recommended to go and visit. Worth having look starting early onwards as animals will be awake. Good fun for kids.

We have a 1 ½ year old and a 3 year old. Both of them loved this place. The food was dreadful and expensive. But we were told that so we should have taken our own food. It would have got a 5 star rating if they sorted the food issue out.

Absolutely a must visit for a family. They taken very good care of the place and the animals. It's easy to find you way around. But would advise to come early as it would take few hours to explore all. Or buy a family membership and visit in chunks. The elephant trails was absolutely amazing. It felt like it was heaven for them. Ample parking available but paid. It's quite cheap.

Great place I took my girlfriend, she loved it. Really big and a fair price for entry, would come back because there is so much to see. She loved the giraffes- so many animals.

Absolutely LOVED the zoo. It's massive and it takes a few hours for you to be able to explore it properly so it would be advisable for you to get there early. The animals are absolutely breathtaking and they are well taken care of and it is just beautiful. And the gift shop is so cute, they have plushies of all the animals and they're all so ADORABLE, it's hard to just get only one thing and leave. An absolute must see for anyone visiting Australia for the first time. This place literally made my holiday, one of the best trips of my life.

Great day out for everybody. Huge variety of wild life from all over the world. It's not like a normal zoo, you will feel like being in Jungle or a rain forest. MUST: Sunglasses Hat Water Start early as it will take the entire day to see all the corners. The only drawback is having less food options at the park. Easy to access through trains and tram. Nearest station is Royal Park Station.

had lots of fun here a very exciting place every time I've been ( Yes I've been here a few times cant stay away). massive place with well looked after animals and great place for kids of every age, spent 4 hours here and had the children falling asleep on the trip home but never felt tired racing around to see as much as possible. don't come here to late in the afternoon as theres too much to see in just a few hours and i still haven't seen everything they have. some highlights are the penguins, lions, tigers and elephants

We took the kids for a small outing to the zoo and it was a nice experience. If you want to avoid waiting in the queue ensure you book the tickets online. Best time to visit the zoo is when it isn't sunny because most of the animals seek shelter under the shade and you will not get to see any.

The zoo is old but always being updated, improved and expanded. I've read a lot of reviews from people complaining about not being able to see the animals due to them hiding or being asleep. I guess that's because their enclosures emulate their native environment so sometimes they're going g to be obstructed by trees or sleeping. They probably need some down from time from dealing with the public and can't constantly be on display for your viewing and entertainment. Today I had no trouble seeing all of the main attractions. I suggest to not overlook the less popular enclosures. The bird aviary and reptiles are good too and butterfly house. The place is clean with lots of space, food is reasonably priced. There are different specials every day like $1 coffee and half price meals. You can bring your own food and have a picnic. Arrive early, take your time and have reasonable expectations.

Last Tuesday me and my whole biology class went there for researching about animal behaviour for our biology test. We had a lots of fun there. This place has such a nice and cute animals. Also the gift shop there, were haveing really good gifts. Trust me we all enjoyed a lot. Now I am planning to visit there again however with my friends. And should definitely recommend all of my known store visit there. Thankful to all the zoo members and keeper and all kind of staff for making my day memorable.

The zoo has a area good for picnics with lots of eating spaces. You do have to pay for parking though. With a guide map you can't get lost. There's allocated areas for certain animals so it's pretty easy to get around

A great place to take the kids on school holidays or at any time really. This is a big zoo so plan to spend a few hours wandering around. One of my favourite places is the reptile house which is quite big and has a large variety of snakes and lizards and everything in between. The raised walkway through the lions den is another good place to visit.

Great day out! Both Australian and animals that you would normally see when you think of a zoo. Lions, tigers, elephants and so on. Well laid out makes getting to see the majority of animals close. Parking can be a pain on busy days, weekends and school holidays. Train station is opposite and tram stop close by so easy via public transport. Kids under 2 are free, toilets were plentiful and clean.
