Beautiful monument to the soldiers lost in war. Perhaps one of the best I have seen. Even if it is closed, it is worth the walk just to see the structure and the grounds. They are well kept and the view of Melbourne is quite nice. Worth a trip as part of a walk though the botanical gardens.

Magnificent shrine built the shape of Temple of Athena , houses the Crypt in honour of fallen soldiers and exhibits from various wars Great place not only as a shrine but also as a museum. Heaven for history lovers It's situated in Royal Botanical Garden and out side is relaxing and serene.

Very moving place. The visitor centre and sanctuary has a very extensive exhibition of Australia's military encounters that would take an hour or more to read and experience everything. There is also an elaborate search engine with a display wall to find servicemen. Up on the balcony, there is a great view of the city skyline and surroundings.

Exhibits are understated, but the implications are obvious, and for this I thank the designers and policy makers. Lest we glorify, and lest we repeat! Lest we forget. It was meaningful exploring the gardens and seeing the many trees dedicated to sections of the armed forces.

The Shrine commemorates the selflessness of young Australians who served in the defence of their nation. Thousands attend the Dawn Service here on Anzac Day each year. The shrine is set in beautiful manicured and mature gardens to wander around following your visit.

Took my dad here during a recent visit to Melbourne. I was amazed at how much was inside. We did not allow enough time to take it all in. Some of the highlights were seeing old bombs and airplanes, as well as the uniforms. Highly recommended for low cost day out that will stay with you.

Incredible place to visit. Melbourne welcomes and is honoured to have Greece's Presidential Guards (The Evzones) attend our parade! Last time they were here was in 1992.

Really great place to see and many things to do here. Your able to relax and take pictures at the front and once you come in you can go to the balcony at the top for more pictures or you can go underground where the permanent war exhibition is where you can see all the information about WWI and WWII as well as having authentic uniform from those times and information on what the Australian defence force is doing now. Great place to see and its free.

It also houses an amazing collection of donated war memorabilia from all conflicts in which Australians have fought. There is a computer room where research can be undertaken. Because the museum is below ground lifts provide disabled access. There are public toilets and a shop selling drinks, books and memorabilia. Be sure to allow plenty of time when you visit.

Short walk from the tram station, and when you arrive at the place it is really quite a sight to behold. Public are allowed to enter the shrine to climb up to the top of the 'observatory deck' and look down at the puny humans below you. Also there is this brazier at the area as well, giving it a kind of 'eternal flames' look. Worth a visit.

It's a war memorial so do observe silence when you're there. Building's architecture looks archaic (definitely the image it has to portray) but it is sturdy. It is dark inside, so be careful if you come with elderly. 15-30 minutes visit when you're in the building. Top floor has a nice view.
