The Vizcaya Museum and Gardens, previously known as Villa Vizcaya, is the former villa and estate of businessman James Deering, of the Deering McCormick-International Harvester fortune, on Biscayne Bay in the present-day Coconut Grove neighborhood of Miami, Florida. The early 20th-century Vizcaya estate also includes extensive Italian Renaissance gardens, native woodland landscape, and a historic village outbuildings compound.
The landscape and architecture were influenced by Veneto and Tuscan Italian Renaissance models and designed in the Mediterranean Revival architecture style, with Baroque elements. F. Burrall Hoffman was the architect, Paul Chalfin was the design director, and Diego Suarez was the landscape architect.

Gorgeous! It was like stepping into another country. The architecture was so crazy beautiful. Inside it was like a Victorian wonderland with many different interesting styles. Outside was gorgeous with the docks and the blue water. Then there were gardens that were just perfect. It was crazy how amazing this place was. I would most definitely recommend this place if you have a few days in Miami.

Gorgeous place. Mostly reminded me of Italian palaces, but there's also French, Spanish and some Chinese influences. The mix of styles makes it a bit quirky at times. The outside area by the water makes you feel like you're in Venice, while the gardens make you feel like you're at a big French palace. Take your time to walk through the gardens, they're absolutely stunning. Some really funny shaped trees here too!

This was my first time here. My friend picked it out to come as our excursion and I'm glad we did. I love royal houses and antiquated aspects of pat living. The house was beautiful. The the backyard was my favorite part. They had four weddings going on which was fine. Everyone still had enough room to walk around and sight see without interfering. I looked online to see how much it would be to have a wedding here and it wasn't bad. That's a goal and reason of mine to come back

Historic museum filled with a lot of history and a beautiful garden. When I went, you can still see some of the damage caused by Hurricane Irma but it did not detract from the beauty that is the garden. The Deering estate is a historic villa that is European inspired and filled with plenty of rooms to explore. The main sell, though, is the scenery outside of the villa; it lies next to the water, so you get some wonderful shots of Miami and it's scenic ocean. And the walk around the gardens is so stunning for a long, tranquil stroll, especially on a sunny, winter day. I would assume that it's not the same experience on a hot, summer day - but the garden's beauty remains the same. Add to the gardens, the lavish architecture of the villa - and you get some pretty cool pics. Definitely a place to visit, if you live in or visit Miami.

The Vizcaya gardens and museum is a place to experience, and I, purposely, use the word experience, rather than merely 'see', the visual part is surely the main attraction, but the spectacle extends to the gardens around, blending seamlessly with nature in the area and even the building materials of the main house. When I visited, in early 2018, some parts of the building were being restored and modifications were being made to the surroundings to protect against rising sea levels and intensifying weather, but the place is beautiful and evocative, all the same. The main house is a mixture of several distinct European and Asian influences, but rather than coming off as unstructured and messy, this manages to convey a sense of exploration and wonder. If you're in the Miami area, I can strongly recommend visiting this site, when I visited, the entrance was 18$ for an adult (which is, apparently, how I'm identified).

This is a beautiful place! Don't go by how the building looks from outside. Once you get in, you'll understand why so many great reviews about it. Everything from the wall to the furniture is one of a kind! I specifically loved the food lift from the kitchen to the dining. Can't imagine how someone could live in such a luxurious house in olden times. A Must visit if you are in Miami. Checkout the structure overlooking the Biscayne Bay in the pic I've posted.

Beautiful villa/garden that functions as a museum. Worth going there and spending 2-3 hours exploring this great piece of artwork. Totally recommend taking the audio guide - offers a lot of additional info that you don’t get by simply going around and reading the boards. The museum used to be the winter retreat location for an American businessman who was managing an agriculture machinery company. Place combines Italian, Greek lavishness with a modern twist.

An absolutely beautiful monument that most people will never have heard of in Miami. The Vizcaya is amazing with a heavy emphasis on European design and architecture. You will honestly feel as if you are in Europe once you're here and think you're in Versailles. You also won't find a better photography spot than here. I would skip Miami Beach and just come here instead. Plus, they filmed parts of Iron Man 3 here. I highly recommend.

Vizcaya is an incredible experience! The mansion is stunning and everything is wonderfully preserved. There are detailed plaques in all the rooms and cool notes about all the (then cutting edge) technology incorporated into the mansion. The gardens are fantastic to walk through and see all the mangroves. Also, there's a student discount! All in all a fantastic experience!

It's a beautiful place to go and see. Love the architecture and the layout of the the mansion. The old timers knew what they were doing. My only complaint is that they would take better care of the gardens... sad that I've been to other poorer countries that took more pride and care of historic gardens. That's what keeps me from giving 5 stars.

We decided to give this place a try as a time filler between our arriving cruise ship and our flight home from Miami airport. It turned it to be a great choice. The girls and grades are fabulous and the house/museum are very interesting to walk through. If it hasn't been so hot and humid we likely would have stayed even longer. But it was great way to spend a few hours pleasantly.

Absolutely worth the visit. Such a beautiful house, designed with venecian inspiration and such a rich history. The center of the home has an expansive, glass ceiling which makes for a wonderful center solarium. There were maybe people on the grounds doing professional photo shoots while we there so that should give you some indication of how beautiful it is. The gardens are a must see. It's a wonderful way to spend an afternoon and get away from the hustle and bustle of Miami.

It is disappointing to have to write a negative review when the museum and garden was beautiful. Upon entering the facility, myself, my friend and her mother went to the Vizcaya we were under the impression that photography is allowed without a permit if used for personal use. This however was not the case, while myself and my friend were dressed in a Japanese fashion trend called Lolita. The staff asked what our purpose at the gardens were. We stated we are here to enjoy the scenery and take a couple photos with our phones. The staff responds saying that we could not and would have to buy a $280 photography permit. When asked why would have to they said that our clothes were not those of a "tourist". It was unsettling to know that just based on our clothing not being mainstream, we would not be allowed to take photos. The staff member than proceeded to say that if any staff member caught us taking photos we would be asked to leave immediately or pay the $280. This was very disappointing since we drove three hours to come visit the gardens. I'm sad to say that this will be the last time I visit the gardens.

This is a beautiful historic mansion and gardens that doesn't disappoint. Interesting history, gorgeous views, amazing gardens. My imagination went wild, as I moved from room to room and thought of how it must've looked and sounded like in it's prime. This place is a great addition to your itinerary of things to do in Miami. Everything about it is fabulous, and over the top.

Visiting Vizcaya is a wonderful adventure back in time! Enjoy John Deerings beautiful home and expansive garden all while a cozy breeze flows over you from the Biscayne Bay. Be prepared to dodge photo-takers everywhere. And for those looking for that prime shot, patience is your friend in finding a quiet minute or two to yourself, even on busy days. Most of all, be mindful and respectful to others as they try to do the same as you.

Vizcaya museum and gardens is one of my favorite places to visit in Miami. The house has such a rich history. You can do self-guided tour‘s, guided tours, or audio tours. Any of these kinds of tours are a great way to visit the house. We chose to do a self-guided tour so we could take our time and read the guides that were at each room. We enjoyed having the time to look at all of the furniture and details that were included when the house was built. The gardens outside are absolutely amazing, make sure you take the time to explore the gardens find the hidden garden, do the hedge maze, and find the area in the back where the gondolas could pull up. The gardens are a great place to get family photos and get amazing views of Biscayne Bay. I would highly recommend taking the time to explore Vizcaya give yourself a couple hours.

This is a nice historical site. The rooms appear have authentic furnishings. The home is very beautiful.....I felt like I was in the 30-40s. The home has beautiful garden and sits on ocean. If this was a hotel I would stay a month. Lots of serenity and peace. It cost $18, you can see in 2 hours, but you really need read all historical plaques to understand what you are seening and who design the rooms.

Beautiful and fascinating place to visit. Areas are well indicated. Make sure it is not too hot to walk around. When I was there it was 80°. Any higher than that would have been 1 more degrees higher than I could handle. If you like gardens and how wealthy people lived in the early 1900s, this place is for you. Unfortunately, the restaurant was closed for renovations. The temporary restaurant was located outdoors, albeit umbrellas were at every table. Sandwiches and drinks are VERY EXPENSIVE.
