The Jardin Animalier de Monaco is a zoo located on the Esplanade Rainer III, in Monaco's Fontvieille ward, on the southern side of the Rock of Monaco. It was established by Rainier III, Prince of Monaco in 1954. 250 animals are held in the zoo, representing some 50 species.
The zoo is a hectare in size, set over four levels on the rock. None of the animals were purchased; all have come from donations, circuses, or abandoned animals and those seized by circuses. Five animals came to the zoo after the 2009 closure of the zoo at Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat.
I went there this summer. There were animals standing in the heat with no water. I will never visit this zoo again. It was a depressing experience. I expected something completely different.

Great little animal park with an amazing view! Very reasonable price too. Much better then the other animal parks we came across in southern France. Animals are taken care of very well, small downside is that the cages are sometimes on the small side

Depressing experience. Poorly kept zoo and cramped up animals. Animals have not been cleaned. Have been to better zoos in India. Trivandrum zoo for e.g.

Very reasonable price to see such beautiful creatures on with an amazing view. It won't take you more than an hour to get through but your great will melt at some of the more furry creatures and even some of the more scaly ones. Totally recommended, one start off only due to the hippo enclosure looking all too small for this beast.

Hidden little treasures in Monaco. Very good place for kids.

This is a great place and entry is cheap. The animals seem to be happy. The lady on the desk did not utter one word!. What I did find concerning was the amount of rats running around in daylight!. These are nocturnal creatures and it shows that there are a large number of them to be seen in daylight. They were even climbing in the children's play area. There is not enough rodent control, and the amount of feed being put down, and the way it is done is attracting the rats. There is a risk of contamination from the rats to both the animals and humans visiting the site.
