The Prince's Palace of Monaco (French: Palais princier de Monaco) is the official residence of the Sovereign Prince of Monaco. Built in 1191 as a Genoese fortress, during its long and often dramatic history it has been bombarded and besieged by many foreign powers. Since the end of the 13th century, it has been the stronghold and home of the Grimaldi family who first captured it in 1297. The Grimaldi ruled the area first as feudal lords, and from the 17th century as sovereign princes, but their power was often derived from fragile agreements with their larger and stronger neighbours.
Thus while other European sovereigns were building luxurious, modern Renaissance and Baroque palaces, politics and common sense demanded that the palace of the Monegasque rulers be fortified. This unique requirement, at such a late stage in history, has made the palace at Monaco one of the most unusual in Europe. Indeed, when its fortifications were finally relaxed during the late 18th century, it was seized by the French and stripped of its treasures, and fell into decline, while the Grimaldi were exiled for over 20 years.

The views are beautiful. The exterior and interior are awesome, some people stop by to see the exterior of the building. and some visit for inside view. Palace features changing of the guard daily at 11.55 a.m, and its worth seeing. Here prices of Monaco resides centuries ago.

Imposing structure where Prince of Monaco resides. Changing of guard is worth watching if you are in area. Many of the small streets and alleys leading to palace have coffee shops, restaurants and shops for browsing. Great places to be in.

So glamorous, so Grace Kelly, I felt like a queen visiting here. Guards wear very smart uniforms, they all look like prince charming. Adorable

One of the most interesting palaces I have seen during my times traveling Europe. Highly recommend a visit to it and the car collection if you are in Monaco

The Palace is really beautiful inside and the view from the outside is wonderful. Photos are not allowed to be clicked inside the palace. They provide an audio guide while viewing it inside. There is a guard exchange that takes place around 12PM and people can watch this. The lanes opposite to the palace have lot of shops for food and other fun shopping🛍

I’ve been to a lot of palaces, but this one is probably the most beautiful. Really great history and the audio guide (which I usually hate) was really informative and well put together. I loved the descriptions of all of the decorations and where they came from. The fact that it’s an actual palace still being used is extra special. The village surrounding the palace is quite beautiful too so you could spend at least half the day around the palace itself. Wonderful views.

Absolutely beautiful view! Several places to take good pictures at. P.S!! There are several steps/stairs to climb before getting to the top and no elevators too. So be sure you’re fit for the journey. But it’s absolutely worth it in the end! Live every tourist sight, souvenirs and snacks are quite pricey at the palace. In all, make sure you take great pictures 😊😊

Nothing much to see in the palace itself. But the views from here of the city, the harbour and the sea are beautiful. The walk up to this point is also nice and relaxing. Not the kind of place I would want to visit again because there's nothing much once you experience the city views. But for someone who likes and enjoys cities this would be a great place.

Great palace. Free audio tour with ticket. They have many languages available. No pictures allowed inside. The audio guide is very thourough, and the tour is well layed out. Not very crowded and honestly the room are amazing and gorgeous. While the palace isn't much to see from the outside, the inside truly shines.
