The Bolshoi Theatre (Russian: Большо́й теа́тр, tr. Bol'shoy teatr, literally "Big Theater", IPA: [bɐlʲˈʂoj tʲɪˈatər]) is a historic theatre in Moscow, Russia, originally designed by architect Joseph Bové, which holds ballet and opera performances. Before the October Revolution it was a part of the Imperial Theatres of the Russian Empire along with Maly Theatre (Small Theatre) in Moscow and a few theatres in Saint Petersburg (Hermitage Theatre, Bolshoi (Kamenny) Theatre, later Mariinsky Theatre and others).
The Bolshoi Ballet and Bolshoi Opera are among the oldest and best known ballet and opera companies in the world. It is by far the world's biggest ballet company, with more than 200 dancers. The theatre is the parent company of The Bolshoi Ballet Academy, a leading school of ballet. It has a branch at the Bolshoi Theater School in Joinville, Brazil.

Great place to go. Love the atmosphere of this theatre, place dress nice. For some performances hard to get tickets sometime. On New Year's can't buy a ticket and presented to someone else unless you put theirs name on it, passport needed at the entrance on New Years holidays.

I saw the ballet performance in this placeㅋ. You have to be aware of there are three halls in this theater and those are in the different building. You should book the opera or show in the historic hall not the new hall. I saw the performance in the new hall. It was just amazing. I will visit to see the performance in the historic hall.

History and art are blended here! You definitely have to see the glorious stage here! They open it up for visitors on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. And the price is about 1200 rubles for an English speaker.

A must for any tourist or resident who loves the arts. It's a classy experience but the music and dance are all accessible to any willing to open their minds to it. It's an experience you'll never forget.

Wonderful experience for either opera or ballet. The historic (main) stage is impressive and beautifully decorated. Try to book in advance from the official site. The prices of the official website are super reasonable particularly when taking in consideration the quality of the performances. The entry to the venue is really fast and easy.

Beautiful venue. Right next to the metro and easy to reach. Close walk to red square and shopping districtwith high end fashion and bars. People in the venue ate really helpful if you do not speak Russian. Intermission food and drinks are cash only.

Incredible experience to visit this architectural beauty. We went to New Stage. Maybe not as impressive in size and style, but the show was beyond imagination. Forgotten Land was the best ballet I ever saw and the crowd was indeed engaged.

United forever in friendship and labour, Our mighty republics will ever endure. The Great Soviet Union will live through the ages. The dream of a people their fortress secure. Long live our Soviet motherland, Built by the people's mighty hand. Long live our people, united and free. Strong in our friendship tried by fire. Long may our crimson flag inspire, Shining in glory for all men to see. Through days dark and stormy where Great Lenin lead us Our eyes saw the bright sun of freedom above And Stalin our leader with faith in the people, Inspired us to build up the land that we love. Long live our Soviet motherland, Built by the people's mighty hand. Long live our people, united and free. Strong in our friendship tried by fire. Long may our crimson flag inspire, Shining in glory for all men to see. We fought for the future, destroyed the invaders, And brought to our homeland the laurels of fame. Our glory will live in the memory of nations And all generations will honour her name. Long live our Soviet motherland, Built by the people's mighty hand. Long live our people, united and free. Strong in our friendship tried by fire. Long may our crimson flag inspire, Shining in glory for all men to see.

Place is great. Shows unbelievable. Very tricky to understand how to use your online ticket. Print? Not print? Exchange? Sorted out only cause a friend of mine is russian, as nobody in the ticket office could speak English. Once you're inside the experience is just great. Absolutely a must if you visit Moscow!

This historical Opera theatre, famous for Russian ballets is very impressively decorated inside and very well maintained. Chandeliers, painted walls and ceilings, classic furniture give a pleasurable feeling when one is inside the theatre to watch a performance. While the air-conditioned cooling was perfect in the lobbies, I felt the ambience inside the theatre a little too warm for comfort.

It's a beautiful theatre, with excellent operas and ballets. The cradle of Russian ballet, no exaggeration about that. They have very expensive tickets, but if you want just to see the interior, they have a standing ticket option. Don't buy tickets from the sculpers. They often cheat you with the price. We've got once a ticket for 5000 rub, which was actually 350 rub. because it was behind the pillar, so we couldn't see anything. And there was a sticker, covering the real price.

One of the world's iconic places! Fine architecture, atmosphere, history and culture abound here. A performance is not to be missed if you are lucky enough to be able to get a ticket!

You must book a show in advance. It's hard to get a ticket otherwise. The stages ( historic and new stage) are awesome and the ballet will blow your mind. I have watched Romeo and Juliet, and would definitely suggest a visit to this place

Excelent! The Onegin ballet was simply great. Perfect performance. The building itself is a masterpiece too. We took a guided tour through the building which was very informative and gave us a good insight into the history and present of the theatre. Highly recommended!

An incredible experience in two ways. The first for the Theater in itself - the architecture, internal and external is superb. Second, and more important, the quality of the plays you can watch here. The presentations of operas and ballets here are, probably, one of the bests you'll in whole world.
